Schedule Pig Butchering...1 - 2 month wait

No problem. I didn't want any of the backyardswine members to be in the same spot I am. Glad I could help at least one person.

I measured my two piggies last night. Came up with 220 for the gilt and 285 for the barrow. He is a big boy. He put on weight so much faster than the girl....

ANother 30 days he will be 325(a little big) and she should be 240 - 250. Plus they eat a lot more when they are 200+....

I am considering jumping into the hog pen right now myself. I have done the cattle, chickens, turkeys.....never a pig. Is there a backyardswine group????? About how old is a pig when it reaches the 220 lb range? The little guys I am considering are currently about 25 lbs. I'm thinking of getting two. They can't be lonely

Yeah-I am trying to get a hold of the mobile slaughter to make an appt. for our pigs in mid November. Then I will call the butcher and set it up with them. I know the butchers get super busy here this time of year due to hunting. We had to wait 2 1/2 months one year to get our elk back!

Well I got mine 4/13... They were 10 lbs. Probably at least 3 weeks to get to 25... My numbers are at work don't have them in front of me...

So 4 months to where I am at... one is 220 one is 285...

Just depends on pig and breed. The barrow is a white pig, the gilt is at least part duroc. I am not pig expert but boy will probably get bigger quicker and different breeds will perform differently...

I say go for it.. have a good fence... or better yet good fence and very good electric fence...

We had this problem one year, turkeys got to 35# dressed weight. I split it up the back and deboned it,leaving the wing bones in. The you just stuff it and sew up the cut, looks like a slightly flt regular turkey
