Schijndelaar Thread

I agree! They're awesome. Mine are both docile and friendly despite being raised by a broody. I was worried they'd be on the flighty side since they're a light breed but they are not. I can't wait to see the eggs in real life and eventually the long-tail of the rooster!

My daughter and our roo. He has quite the tail!

Hard to capture the color in photo but the 3 blue green eggs are Schijndelaar. I threw in some of the others for comparison but no matter what I try photo wise, the color looks washed out. The towel in the background probably shows the color best, it’s the closest color I could find to show the eggs. I’ll post a better one when I have more eggs to show too, but there is some variation by hen. Some hens lay more eggs more of a sky blue color and others look more sage.

Hi! @spruett386 what is your Schijndelaar rooster’s personality like? Is he always friendly and willing to be held? And is he good to his hens? I’m probably going to get hatching eggs in the (hopefully near) future, and I’m very curious to know if the roosters are good boys.

They are not interested in me much, only at snack time. They are more on the wild side. They are good protecters and I had no problem adding other roosters. So far there were no major fights

I really want some but at the time was to much money for them. So I decided to go the other way that is probably going to cost me more and make something like them through selective breeding.
