Chickened I think that you need to remember that not everyone here is Christian. I am not. I don't want my kids taught "Christian values" in school. I want them to be taught human values. To respect other viewpoints and to have their viewpoints respected. I want for my children to not be taught that they are a lesser being because of the higher power that they do or do not believe in. I want them to be taught that they are free to love and live with whomever they want. I want them to be taught in a school that has the money to pay for paper for the children. Who isn't required to teach for testing. A school where there isn't forty children in a classroom. A school that has funding for art and choir and band. A school that has teachers who love their job and aren't tired from having to work a second job to make ends meet. I want a utopia I guess. A we society instead of a me society.

I realize that not everyone is Christian but I also realize that most everything in life has a hint of truth but is mostly a lie or a utopia as you suggest. I have studied other religions and empowering ideas that replace religion and still find Christianity to be the best for me. Solomon was a real person secular history has proved that and so have secular scientist. He was the wisest man that has ever lived, monetarily he was way better off than Bill Gates and some theologians say he was millions time richer than Gates in comparison to the average wealth today. His writings are some of the most brilliant I have ever read and at or near the end of his life he said to fear (or respect) God for this is the duty of man. This guy knew more about anything you could hope to know in this world and I don't mean science he was wise as could be and if his story was not in the Bible more people would give him his due respect. My point is he came to the conclusion that the truth was not in mans' wisdom but Gods'. Some folk today do not realize that the fabric of this world is held together by something more than the things science can explain like why the Earth is on an axis at just the right angle and if it were off by 1 degree we would not have the seasons or to put it in relevant terms how a chicken can lay an egg heat it for 21 days and get a life (aquaeyes please don;t try to explain that one either) we know that it happens but not why it does it at 21 days not 15 or at 100 degrees not 105 degrees. The Bible offers the best answers to those kind of questions and many more. The Bible also gives a pretty good explanation for the behavior of people in this world and the problems that are a result of bad behaviour. The world you want as you described could exist if we followed the one admonishment that God asks us to do and he does ask us and that is to love one another.

Kobe wasn't fined by his owner but by the NBA which is the Government to basketball. Our Constitutional rights are not left at the door of employment. You may get fired if you upon getting hired agreed to those rules. Kobe was fined because it wasn't PC. what he said. I have heard a lot worse at NBA games and no fines.

Right now that is how I feel. I have also researched religions. I came away with a profound distaste for Christianity. Mostly because like a wise man once said "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. ~Mahatma Gandhi. In my experience and I am speaking only of what I personally have encountered. Christians think that the world would be a perfect place if everyone was like them. I don't want to be like everybody else. I want to be like me. I don't want to blindly follow a religion that elevates one gender above another. I don't want to be part of a religion that says loving who you love is an abomination. I don't want to be a part of a faith path that in this current day and age does not practice what it preaches. However, this thread did not start out with a religious bent. It started because someone was concerned about the school system that they and their family is a part of. I could throw stones on what I think the cause of the defunding of our schools are. Due to the wide range of political views on here though, it's not a good idea. So I leave on this note. We get what we pay for.

Does me being a Christian personally effect you? did I do something to you in a former life? I am a person like you on this keyboard with problems and things in the world I do not like also but I do not blame Budha or Allah.

In retail terms citizens are the checkers state government are the managers and the feds are CEO we all work for the Government or at least for about 4 months a year now.

Nope, and so long as it doesn't effect me or mine in any way I've got absolutely NO problem with you practicing your faith to your heart's content. BUT, should you try to force your religion on me through law, should you try to force it on me in ANY way, THEN I have a problem. Whether that faith is Christian, Buddism, Muslim or Atheist doesn't matter. All that matters, in this country at least, is that each person have the same choice in their faith, if any. Folks who want to live in a theocracy, write laws according to religious text and/or enforce them according to religious text should take a look at some of the theocracies that do. Places like Iran, Libya... places where we send soldiers to STOP that kind of tyranny because it is NOT what we stand for and we will NOT stand for it. I for one am extremely thankful to be a citizen of the US. And I am extremely thankful that our laws are NOT Biblical law else I'd have been STONED TO DEATH IN FRONT OF MY FATHER'S HOUSE at the ripe old age of 16 when I was... well let's just say attacked. The Bible (and Koran) is a lot more graphic than anything I'd let my kid's read, not only in the death sentences handed down but also in the behavior condoned, even demanded, by that god. No way would I let my kids read that kind of filth. They'd be terrified of every Christian the met, fearing them to actually follow the words of that book. So yeah, VERY thankful that our laws aren't Biblical (or Koran) and will vote each and every time against ANY law that is religiously based. It's just not safe, not with the religions floating around out there. Sounds quite zealous of me I'm sure, but all we need to do is look at our own human history to see what happens when religion rules... you get holy wars, holy crusades and a holy hell of a lot of death and destruction. That can happen with any two people, but when an entire country is steeped in it, particularly countries with massive weapons capable of killing millions... it's just not worth it.

That said, public education should be free of any given religion. So that no one's is included OR excluded from the curriculum. That is the only fair way to go about it. Each student is welcome to their religion in their own heart and mind, in their home, in their church, etc but they don't get to dump it on anyone else, staff or fellow student. I certainly don't want any Muslims trying to convert MY children... not in this day and age... it's just not safe these days... and with our equal rules if you let one religion in then you could be forced to allow any religion in... and it is just not worth it IMO to expose your children to that... confusing if nothing else, but for those true believers it could actually result in your child converting... not something I'd be willing to risk if I was a faithful follower. But then if I was a hard core religious person I'd prolly insist on private or home schooling anyways so kind of moot.
