School fundraisers??

It's not the once a year fundraisers I have problems with, it's the 5, yes, 5 fundraisers that my twin daughters were expected to participate in last year for school and sports. We had a problem with one or two of the coaches trying to punish students who didn't sell $15 tubs of cookies. The principal and superintendent got to know me very quickly. However, I did offered to pay my daughters portions for their extracurricular activities.

When name-brands are on lists you have to realize they aren't actually asking for a brand it's been so over used it's accepted as a descriptor. For instance:
Pampers = diapers
Roller Blades = inline skates
Germ X = hand sanitizer
Purell = hand sanitizer
Elmer's glue = any school glue

You can buy any brand you want to.

Not necesarily, some teachers are very specific on which brands they want--on a similar thread a few weeks ago a teacher listed a strong reason for a preferred brand (don't recall the specifics). The companies will get very upset and could sue for using a trade/brand name when you mean the generic product--that is the way they can actually lose their registered name. If someone used a sentence in speaking with me, and the term GermX or Purell were in it I wouldn't have a clue what they meant.

I didn't say it was right to use it that way, but it is done and it's not going to stop. Nothing drives me crazier than to hear a mom say "I need to change the babie's pamper",,,,,, it's a diaper not a pamper!!!
But around here we don't are what brand it used as long as the students bring their supplies and we don't have to but them ourselves since the beer is more important in their homes.

Sorry, I'm totally lost on your last sentence................ can you explain that, or rewrite it??

Also What do you do when you buy an off brand and your kids are sent home with it. You get a note saying its not what we asked for.

Hey remember I'm an educator I can't spell! That should say "and we don't have to buy them". Around here, the beer is more important than the school supplies and heaven help you if expect a parent to put off cigs or Jack Daniels to buy a notebook.

WOW, I wouldn't never question your dedication but many parents are just as jaded with bad school districts as you are with bad parents.

Just an observation. I would homeschool my kids if I knew for sure how long they would be with me. Many of them have a couple months to a couple of years max since I take in at risk teens only. In Michigan, the school systems are failing our children IMHO.......

If the teachers in detroit metro are so dedicated, why do only 29% of high school students graduate with full credit if they graduate at all...... Just saying. Where I live Swartz Creek Schools are great, but my kids did't start out in a small town school district, they started out in the inner cities and I see it daily, not quite as much as you do, but enough.

Thats why i sort of have a hard time dealing with 5-10 fundraisers per year.
