Scorpion sting?

Thank you, for the dosing info! I was curious when to give again. It's been 4 hrs and she only has slight improvements. She is resting now in the laundry room where it is cool. I will keep you posted how she does.

You can give her another 1/2cc childrens benadryl dose 24 hours after her initial dosing IF there's no improvement.

The scorpion venom is composed from neurotoxins, cytotoxin, an hemotoxin,
I really want to now what is the logic to give Benadryl? Benadryl is an antihistaminic medicine , that use to treat allergy. Can someone explain were is the connection between the two things?

She seems to be slowly improving! It's been 9 hrs since I found her and she just stood up. She's walking like a drunk and still not opening the one eye but she did drink some and ate a couple bites of a peach. Looks like she may recover.

Agreed. Benadryl is the only thing available for poultry in regards to insect/scorpion stings/spider bites. The antihistamine suppresses histamine induced swelling in the trachea allowing the bird to breathe and not suffocate.
Usually, birds metabolize the venom rather quickly and recover in 24 hours.
There's antivenom available for dogs if bitten by poisonous snakes (hemotoxin only, as far as I know), but it's very costly.

For those following, my hen has made a full recovery. Last night I fished her eye out but she still wouldn't open it. Then this morning she had it open half way and was eating well, walking around normally but occasionally scratching near that eye. I suspect that is where she was stung. I put her with the flock and checked on her frequently. By night fall her eye is all the way open and she has been up on the roost. Yippee! So, I'm not really sure why the Benadryl worked for those asking but I'm almost positive she would have died without something. Her breathing was so shallow, etc. With as many bark scorpions as we have here I will be sure to keep Benadryl on hand for any future stings.
Thank you for all your help!
