Scotch eggs

After read this thread I've decided that its time to make these...I've never heard of them and they sound interesting to make and eat.I have some brothers that i'm gong to try them out on.....My DH wont try new things so brothers and kids are good little guinea pigs...lol....

Hmm...I've made scotch eggs many times..but never had them rolled in crumbs or fried in a pan. Here's how my great grandfather, grandfather, father and now I do it...I'll post the full recipe a bit later when I get home

Boil a dozen eggs. Cool. Buy 16 oz of fresh, sweet sausage. cut that into 12 pieces...flatten out..then wrap around egg, and pat around the egg to close the sausage around the entire egg. Place in smoker with hickory wood for 2.5 hours at 225F. Take out...cut them in half lengthwise....scoop out the yellows and devil them..them scoop the deviled egg mix back into each egg half....ENJOY.

Again, I'll post the exact recipe a bit later

The only banger sausage I've found so far in this country was the imported Piccadilly version and it was nasty! I love scotch egg but it surely does depend on have a nice sausage around it. Maybe ground beef or ground turkey could work as a substitute?

I tried my first Scotch egg at a great Irish pub in Louisville. I was hooked on them ever since. They just look so unhealthy for you but boy are they delicious. The best and traditional way to eat them is to eat them with an English spicy brown mustard. With a pint of Guiness, they make a great meal.
