Screaming chick. ALL THE TIME

Back to square one . :(
This morning she was closed eyed, sitting on her back and peeping. Last night she just sadly followed the older babies around crying. She's back in the incubator again.

I have the new home set up - heat lamp included. If I can get her stable enough I will try again. Last night I had all six babies inside the warming cave, so she can't be too lonely.

Something wrong inside is my bet.

Very good chance of it. Hatchery chicks are mass produced. Many die within the first week or so. They should be guaranteed but there are still losses. It sounds like there is something wrong internally. She should be acting the same as the others. I would also stop feeding the mealworms. I only give them to adults, not chicks. They can cause intestinal issues. Keep her warm and with the others. The other two are showing you that the conditions are ok. Water and food 24/7. Wet the food so it is soft and squishy. Poke at it with the point of a pencil when she is near it to get her to eat better.

She should not be so unsteady on her feet. That makes me suspicious, even tho she is only a few days old, she should be walking around. Watch them at the feed store, they are all very active. Something is wrong, health wise. I would isolate her in your hospital area with food and water, Maybe the kitchen where it is warm, until you can figure it out.

Thanks for the link aart! It's good to have that.

Your first recommendation was the right one. Ignoring the problem is negligent!

FOR ONE THING, CLEAN UP THE POOP!

Both posts read as abrasive. There are ways of saying a thing and ways of saying it nicer. No need to offend folks. ;)

aart posted a link to the continuation of the chicks progress. It looks like it is doing much better. Worth a read for sure.
