Screw/washer alternative for hardware cloth ideas

I think you're right. Hoping there's something a bit bigger. I'm lazy I want to just grab screws and keep moving.

maybe before you go out and start take a bunch of screws and washers and use super glue to stick 'em together

Unless they are staples that I'm not familiar with, standard staples are not sturdy enough to keep a predator from ripping the hdw cloth off. I am fond of fender washers and outdoor screws. Depending on the application, lath strips and screws, or sandwiching the hdw cloth between 2 boards that make up the trim work works well. When I did my windows, I bent the hdw cloth at 90* angle, so each edge at the bend had 1" to make the hdw cloth less floppy, then, the "flange could be screwed with lath, or fender washers from the INSIDE of the window. To my knowledge, fencing staples are the only ones that are sturdy enough to stand up to predator demolition tactics.

Some people use ROOFING SHINGLE staples. They will not rust and they have adhesive on them. The speed and force on the staple shooting thru the wood, heats up the adhesive. They play for keeps!
They are approved for use here at Hurricane ally and are mandatory upon inspection by building dept code. You can rent a gun, compressor, hose, and purchase the amount of staples you require at your local equipment rental store. My neck of the woods has several of these places and we are a small town. Also you can return any clips of unused staples for a refund. Bam Bam Bam.. your done.

Ditto on Farmer Connie's post. I used 2" staples with glue on them. They will not come out, even if you use pliers on them. I used them every 3-4".

I learned this when my DH helped a friend build their chicken house. His buddy is a roofer..

I've gotten impatient with it, too. Sit in front of a good show on Netflix and assemble the washers and screws. It's maddening if you do it as you go.

The caps from glass bottles would do well as washers, but you'd have to have access to a sizable collection.

I agree. All one need do is start the washer onto the screw so the point is through and the act of driving the screw home does the rest.

I wouldn't want to use the roofing staples unless, I was absolutely positive I'd not want to dis-assemble/rebuild at a later date!
