Refund is always an option.

Off to lunch before I get any more hateful than I am already. Wish I could have a margarita or twelve.

Oh wow Kathy! That is a tough decision. Let's look at the facts we have before us and maybe it will help you to make a well balanced decision. When you received eggs from Andrea each time, what was the condition they arrived in? Were they properly wrapped and padded to assure a safe arrival? In other words, did her packing job look like she knew what she was doing and that it was important to her to do everything she could to get them to you in one piece?

I seem to recall you mentioning that the first set arrived all broken, or at the very least, the air cells blown out and therefore making them nonviable eggs. Was that indeed the case? The second set arrived safely enough for you to think that you had viable eggs, right? And out of that, you got two mutts?

What was the overall condition of the eggs when you received them. By that I mean, if you were going to go out to your coop and collect eggs for an incubation session, were they the kind of eggs you would have put in the incubator? Were any of them too porous to be considered for incubation? Too old perhaps? I guess what I'm trying to ask here is, what was the overall quality of the eggs to begin with?

All in all Kathy, my gut is telling me to cut ties with this gal. I just have a problem with anyone who would collect and ship out eggs, representing them as a specific breed [especially when they're supposed to be a very hard to get breed] when they know darn well that their roosters have escaped and run amok among the hens of various breeds. A conscientious and responsible breeder would have told you, when facing the replacement of the first order of eggs, that it would be awhile before she could provide you with purebred eggs again.

I know I would have been completely willing to wait the three extra weeks to assure that I was getting what I paid for. She KNEW she had the distinct possibility of mixed breed eggs, and yet she sent them out to you as purebred Coronation Sussex anyhow.

That is NOT the actions of someone who gives a rats bum about the quality of their product. Heck! She should have insisted that you wait for the purebred eggs!

Kathy, in all honesty, even though she doesn't list it as an option, I'd tell her that you want a full refund of the purchase price. You'll go ahead and take it in the shorts on the shipping, but that you want your money back. If she had been honest and upfront with you in the first place, you might have considered one more time with her eggs. But she betrayed that trust by sending you mutt eggs. And now she wants to send you two chicks, at great cost to you, along with more of her mutts, and expect that to be adequate compensation? I don't think so! Enough is enough!

Get your money back and run like heck girl!

I think she should pay shipping on the chicks and BAND the two coronations so you know which is which. I don't think her hatch rate is gong to improve. It could just be that these eggs don't ship well, the way a lot of people say Orp eggs are harder. Or it could be something she is not doing correctly, or it could be HER post office or somewhere in between. If she won't refund money, she that she ship the chicks and band them. Oh, I said that already- whoops!

Gosh, I love Sarah's farrier almost as much as I love my own! Sounds like a good 'un!

Anybody have any idea what a double dose of Valbazen might do to a 6 month pullet? Silkie is a greedy little snatcher when it comes to treats, and when I wormed them, I thought I had her occupied with her own big piece of bread, but she appeared out of nowhere and snatched Ultrasuede's dosed piece right out of his beak! I snatched her and grabbed some of it back, but I think she got most of it.

Here ya go...I made a thread about the critters at Sarah's with pics...hehehehe

Cyn, check out Baize

in front of the lavender in this pic. We can tell him/her from everyone else because of the light eyes.

no crowing yet and that comb is not getting bigger....I think Baize fooled us and is a girl. LOL

cetawin,
I agree .... I think Baize is a girl ! Just like my little Delaware girl that was returned as a rooster! LOL They can fool us sometimes!

Serrin, The eggs were packaged extra carefully. She did a wonderful job with that. She even sent out the second batch, "Express Delivery," and they arrived the next day (and she paid the postage). I think she is well meaning, and just screwed up. HOWEVER, I am the one that got screwed! I paid $100. for six eggs (three times), plus postage of $15. x 2. So, I have spent WAY TO MUCH! I never would have done this on my own. My DH insisted on it, for my birthday. GEZ..... what a mess!

Well cheer up! Look at these mutts- they are so cute we will all switch over and forget this breeding business entirely. It took me an age to get these because the minute I go in their run, they are on my shoulders, head, back, feet- I am evidently the favored roosting place. They are 8 weeks old.

Ivan the Terrible, who has really turned into Ivan the Lover even if he looks like a toughie- this picture was taken while he was on my shoulder -

Boo has a great fluffy butt, and is light blue with some bit of barring or cuckoo pattern on his head and neck only:

Belle has a beautiful dark eye, and the gold leakage is really pretty, but she is a bit standoffish - whe likes being on my back, and will cuddle, but doesn't stay as close as the others:

And little Emma, who is absolutely endearing, and who I think is looking pretty good - she is Luke's only child - look at the tail black coming in!

Well howdy doody, here is what I would say.

Unfortunately, after such a poor hatch rate on both batches of eggs I have received I am understandably hesitant to try my luck once again and possibly end up with no birds, or with additional "splits", nor am I willing to spend additional money to attempt a shipment of chicks which may or may not even survive the trip. I would instead prefer to recieve a refund on all costs for these orders. I find this reasonable, considering I have gone through two batches of eggs, 6 weeks of my time, incubation space and power and the only thing I have to show for this entire experience are two "mutts". I no longer have the time or space to incubate eggs this late in the season and after having spent over $100, I should not need to take any more chances, pay any more money or put any more work into this venture.

Please send a refund of all costs ($xxx) to my email address so that we can close this out. Thank you.

P.S. Please die in a fire.

I mean, um, wait.......just kidding, that is a running joke here not what I would actually like to have happen. Anywho, I find that all reasonable and well and heck, paypal probably would as well should she refuse
