Kathy, those are great pictures- you really have some lovely birds. That first girl from Dick has got wonderful lacing! Is that the resplendent Miss Polly in the 8th picture down? Or do you have another huge beauty with that rusty front? And fourth from the bottom - who is "Leggs" in there? Wow!

Tim, I am all for giving chickie a chance- a little time and patience can do wonders. Go for it!

Cetawin, she is a tough girl, no shoes, no blanket. Born and raised in Wisconsin, so she knows how to grow a polar bear coat. The only thing I would worry about is the richness of KY grass as compared to anything else she has been on, but you know all about that, so I have no worries there. She lived outside one winter here, and one up north with just a run in to get out of the wind and weather. She does need a farrier that knows what he is doing to balance the one front foot, and your MIL's farrier needs to be kicked out of the business and run out of the country!

Put him on the list!!
NC and WI both demand the Coggins and health cert, papers, etc. so I will make sure everything is supplied and ready up at that end. Hope this works!

Kathy...love that first blue orp. She is so purrrty I think she wants to live here with Polly. Yes I do.

Beth...that amish farrier of my MILs is so lucky that it was my BILs horse and not mine because he would have thought for sure he'd been double barreled when he shook himself back into reality. As it was he merely had the board taken away from him, him hammer thrown outside the barn and a tongue lashing that I doubt he ever thought could come from a pint sized female. But, yesterday I spent the afternoon with Sarah, caatching and holding horses for her farrier and he is awesome. He did minimal filing because the hooves were so hard and immediately saw a stone bruise abcess on one of the mares and he stopped. He checked her other feet and said no more until she was stood in some mud daily for the next 10 days to soften the hooves a bit. Then he said he would come back, inject a steroid and put a pad on her because of her being 5 months in foal, he would not risk causing her pain. I think he knew he was being checked out but he never said a word about it, he just answered my questions and Sarah's, and explained why he would or would not do something. Very knowledgeable, gentle and good with the horses...I liked him a lot.

My field is a timothy grass field so not too rich and we were thinking about seeding with a good pasture mix and I would have her feed milled that way I wanted and that she needed. We have a feed mill over in Versailles and they did a great job with Sarah's feed. And of course she would get tons of attention and treats every day. Sarah now has a 5lb bag of apple carrot treats in her trailer that I stuck in there and have advised her she must give the girls on the nights I do not feed for her. She just shakes her head and laughs. I got pics of the horses I have to download them but will share them later.

So, we are discussing, checking and working on this...we will not waste too much time making a decision Beth, I promise.

Hi folks,
Well she is strong and she's not going anywhere yet. She is in the brooder by herself but Frenchy and Buckwheat are in a pen near by and they can see each other. She's a Del.

Kathy those are nice pics. Trilyn and I have plans for Orps and RIR's and BR's come late winter to hatch. I personally want rosecombs. Dick Hortsman, oooohhhhh , we are a name dropper aren't we? I have no idea who any of the people are who are mentioned as "they're from this persons line" and all that. The important thing is how do they lay. At least for some. My Dels of course are another matter, they gotta look good and lay well or they're history. Well ok they have to look decent too. No skinny chickens here. I like a poofy orp any color. Gotta have nice birds to look at. My broody BO is nice and poofy but then she's not being bothered by the roo. I expect I'm going to have to have a non roo pen, so the hens don't looked messed up.

Well have a nice day folks, lots to do.

Love ya all

I must have missed the farrier story. I assume he whalloped the horse with a board? Unacceptable. My farrier once whacked my horse in the back of the hoof with the file. Normally unacceptable but she really did deserve it. She can be obnoxious with farriers. Hold her leg up long enough and she does a drunker sailor sway back and forth and back and forth that makes it look like she is ready to lose her balance and keel over. What a coinky dink, once he whacked her in the hoof she startled and stopped and stood stock still until he was done.

She is not mean, but is smart and lazy. Of course, payback is a female dog as within a half hour of the whacked hoof she broke and dislocated one of my fingers doing a crazy attempted bolt while I was holding the lead rope....... double

Cetawin, sure you don't need a second horse? She is permanently lame and not safe for any type of light riding or leadlining of small children (HECK no), but she is an amazing "companion horse" and is a treat hound. LOL. And she shore is purdy.......

HELP ! ! ! I got a reply, now tell me what you would do .....

Hi Kathy,

I did look at the picture, however the single on was the only one I was able to open.

Obviously coronation sussex chicks should not have feathered shanks, as yours do. I have not hatched out any coros with those feathers. The only thing that I can think is that I may have mixed up the second batch I sent you with my splits. They had gotten loose one day into the French Blacks cage, and that may be where the feathers came from, I'm not sure.

Anyway... I do want you to be happy with what you received. I can't guarantee hatch rates as you know, but I can try to make up for this.

Here are two options that we can do...

1. I send you out ten eggs at my cost, including shipping. That is the amount of your last shipment.

2. I send you out two pure coro chicks, but you pay the actual shipping. (around $50) I will also include a few other chicks (splits) so that they stay warm. I don't like to send out less than six chicks at a time. I only have two pure coro chicks at this time, so that is all I can send you. They aren't sexed yet, about 2 weeks old.

Let me know if either of these is acceptable to you.

Well..........both options SUCK. You can pay nothing for 10 eggs, of which you will probably end up with nothing.

Or you can pay ANOTHER $50 for 2 chicks. Hell....that may or may not even survive the trip. What happens when only 2 chicks survive the trip and you have no way of telling if you even have the pure or the splits left. Or better yet, what if no chicks survive....or you do know which is which and none of the pure survive? Then you are out your original money AND another $50.

I would ask for a full refund of both batches.......you definitely deserve a refund of the 2nd batch considering you were shipped the WRONG product. And for your time trouble and the fact that there is no way to even tell if the 1st batch was the right thing or splits also.....you should get that one refunded too.

Kathy I agree with Janelle...those are both sucky options. Personally, since you have incubated two batches of her eggs and have 2 splits to show for Coros I would demand a refund on the eggs (min one batch) or she can send closer to double (20 - 24 Coro eggs) for incubation as her shipped eggs have such a poor hatch rate. As a good faith show and from a business standpoint which she appears to be coming from, send you a dozen eggs at her cost.

Paying her more money for 2 coros and more splits, which you did not want in the first place, is buffalo dung! That lady is off her rocker. She gets no more money and you get the eggs you paid for TWICE or your money.

I just don't know what to do. I am obviously out the money .... she did not even offer a refund as an option. I am thinking to go ahead and get the chicks. I do understand there is no guarentee for a good hatch, and I could get a big zero there. I usually have good hatches, and was disturbed these hatches were so bad. Crap, I don't know what to do..........

Kathy...she is charging $15 an egg...she can afford (from the money you paid for 2 batches) to send you the dammmmned chicks at her cost! No more money to her or some/all of your money back to you! Do not let this wacko shove it up your backside and call it sunshine!
