I am planning on going to an auction tomorrow evening to see what's up with chicken sales myself and if I don't think they are going for a good enough price I'm gonna try to sell some outright by word of mouth and a few posters here and there. Other than that "they ain't nobody gettin' my ones for dirt cheap for sure" I got way too much in them to just hand over to someone that wants something for nothing. Not happenin here, I'll just keep afeedin' them, been doing it so far alright.. BUT I sure do need the room I'm out ,all fulled up. I got chickens shoved(not literally folks, just figuratively) in ever nook and cranny possible here.

Jeff

And that's where I'm heading now is to go build more pens in the barn, mas mucho mas

Who did you decide to let go Kathy?

Leaving today were miscellaneous birds and roosters. ALL the Silkies are gone. A few green legged Delawares, too small Orps, excess Jersey Giant roosters, Easter Eggers, 2 F1 project girls, a couple BCMarans, etc. Have still not totally cut a whole breed out, except for the Silkies. I'm working on it though. The choices are more difficult than I thought. I guess I am more attached than I thought I was. My goal is to have empty pens before leaving for The Crossroads in Indy.

There comes a time when it is acceptable to me to give them away. Not feeding them anymore will save me money. That is almost as good as making money off them. Honestly, I would be happy with dirt cheap rather than free though.

Aww Kathy, I know it's tough but think of what you will save in work and feed cost.

I have 4 cockerals that I am planning on taking to the last small animal swap in town tomorrow morning. I am hoping to give them away, if I can't then I will cull them. They won't be big enough to butcher till December and I don't think I like the idea of being out in the cold doing that.
Shug and the babies got to get out of the brooder today and they are doing great!

Bad news... my in-laws house got broke into yesterday. They live next door to me and I was not home either. The sheriff said that there have been a lot of B & E's in this area

Laura, glad you have Kody! (hope I spelled that right). It's scary when things like that start happening in a neighborhood. Be safe!

Kathy, congrats to your on your big sale! I agree, sometimes, it makes sense to give them away and just save on the feed they will no longer be eating.

Nugget's egg is on Day 20 tomorrow. I did candle it while she was on potty break today and did see the chick move so it's alive. Just hope it's a normal chick.

Thanks Cyn. I am glad too but it's Pippin, the little dog, that will alert me to any unusual noise and while some people don't like it, I do! Especially now!
I hope that you are feeling better, headaches are the worst! And good luck with Nugget's hatchling.

Forgot to show the eggs I got today...
in this order, year old Delaware, year old EE, NH pullet, delaware pullet, Icelandic pullet, Icelandic pullet and an Ameraucana
