. You are so good to me Brandon Thank you. Do you need my assistance ?

Those girls are a mess Leaya freaks out at bedtime and runs around like an idiot and she freaks out when Lancelot dances for her. Chewy is just a mess but she goes into the coop at night with no problems and is eating out of my hand along with Becca. They had peas today but Leaya would only eat them if I tossed them to her. She will come around.

I had a surprise duckling hatch last night with the traitor Ancona and GWH girl but it did not make it. I am not sure what happened but it was partially dried off and out of the shell. Baby looked fully developed and normal. She still has a few eggs under her and Mounds my lonely Ancona is sitting on 3 eggs, she starting laying and sitting on them when the ducklings died, she was so upset and she could not get in that brooder if she wanted to help keep them warm when that bulb blew. But I did not think about giving her that type of access because she was still running away from them when they came near her. So, I am letting her sit on the eggs.

Cyn, have you tried chiropractic for that headache? just a thoght, it works for me- hope you feel better this morning.

LH- great pictures- Leaya is a pretty thing. Hope the rest of the project goes smoothly- that is a lot of work. Why is the Diva not out there supervising?

Kathy, what are you down to? I like the F2- that IS great barring -

We are processing today.

I just want to get it over with. I keep holding on to the thought that I need to empty the tractors before winter, because if it snows like it did last year and the year before, I won't be able to find them in the field, much less move them or feen anyone inside them.

Beth she was also supervising with her face stuffed full of carrots and apples. She barked orders and squealed when she thought I was screwing up. I thought her supervision was a give so I failed to mention it. Nothing goes on around this place without her input and leadership.

Leaya and Chewy came from Brandon. Becca I got at our September swap, she was just so pretty and I lost my green egg layer with the girls in July so he said they were olive eggers, we shall see but I adore her anyway.

Well you might find this strange but I envy the "dry ground". I'm still wondering where that global warming is. It certainly isn't in these parts I can tell you that.

Now to the roosting? I'm embarrassed to say that the poor things had their first taste of real ground yesterday when I finished the run. Due to where the hoop coop is I couldn't let them out. While I haven't seen any preds they might have gotten lost in the woods. There is a great deal of space but you know how they have a tendency to get into trouble. While they do have plenty of space in the coop and it's open on the front, I could tell they were getting antsy. They had no problem jumping to the ground this morning.

Kathy you never answered my question about what you sold. Chicks or chickens.

As for snow I think Jole mentioned, don't get me started. Last year everything was melted and then we got 2 feet in one day. Here in Syracuse we hold the record for number of inches, for the season. It's nothing to have snow banks 4 feet high and to have to snow blow the drive twice in a day. If I didn't cover the runs with plastic the poor things would never be able to go out. Of course nothing's ever buttoned up so tight there is not air flow and I still put in the bale of straw to keep their feet from freezing.

I may have mentioned the article in the current issue of BY Poultry on winter keeping. While it is helpful I'm not sure it applies to this far north. Lord knows Virginia gets' nothing like we get here. One thing is for sure if you get birds from me they must be pretty hardy to survive the cold. I don't do anything special. Who cares if a bird is pretty if it needs special treatment. Hardiness is just as important, right?

When I do buy from Green Fire (Florida) I'll have to ease them into the winters, so they get used to the cold.

Well take care folks,

Rancher

Here is my Pocket Penny, one of the Mille Fleur D'Anver pullets, same age as Rex and his girls. Isn't she precious? Penny wants to live in my pocket, hence the nickname. The pullets are super sweet and the cockerels are fiesty as heck.

Since this is the Dellie thread, I'll talk about them a bit-Ellie is hanging in there. She free ranges far and wide when I let them roam, but she is positively skeletal. Not sure how long she will hang on. I hope against hope that she'll rebound and recover and begin laying again. Georgie's egg under Nugget isn't pipped yet, or wasn't about an hour ago. Today is Day 20.

Chickens. Some at point of lay and others already laying.
Today the green legged F2 chicks will go, along with even more hens and pullets. Probably a few more roosters, too.

Well I haven't placed my order with Green Fire yet, I keep thinking I'd enjoy a dishwasher more.

If I could sell some Dels then I would save up for the Green Fire birds. Maybe I'll have better luck with the orpingtons when they lay hatchable eggs.
