This morning, the thermometer read 10*. Another frigid night tonight, then the temps are supposed to start rising. No snow, though the Cherokee County, NC schools, which is the county immediately next to mine, are closed due to ice and snow on the mtn roads.

Yes our wind chill was like 6 degrees this morning - we got a dusting of snow. My only joy is all the mud from the wettest year on record for ohio has frozen!

No telling what the windchill was! The wind was howling all night.

Oh, Kathyinmo, I'm collecting your eggs now! Dottie hasn't decided to go broody yet, so she's still laying for us.

DH is an ENABLER!!! While at Walmart today for a few groceries, he says, "You know, after Scott takes Rex, the girls' eggs will be fertile for a couple more weeks. You could collect them and hatch a few if you don't put them in with Isaac right away, keep some and sell some."

I said YOU ARE AN ENABLER! And I called him enabler for two aisles and threatened to tattle to BYC about him.

He may regret saying that. Their coop can be a nice grow out coop when Ida, Dottie, Wynette and Maretta go to the main flock. Hmm, now how about that? I have a grow out coop and pen as long as Suede stays in the coop he's in now.

Oh, I think I'll leave Suede where he is-he has a nice big window next to the roost shelf and if he went to Rex's side, he'd have to climb a ladder roost, something Tom is worried about, in order to see out a window. If we remove the roost ladder, he won't be able to see out a window at all, so it may be best for him to just stay where he is. I could, however, take down the center divider fence and let him have access to a larger pen, though, when the girls are in the main flock. I don't want Suede upset and he may get upset if we move him to a different coop and he has no window he can see out of.

I have to say I love these BR pullets. They are the sweetest girls. The plumage on BRs is so super soft, I've always loved that about them. Ladyhawk commented over and over again about how soft Ivy was when she was here the first time, before Ivy passed on.

Ida and Dottie are the larger of the three, but Wynette has the prettiest face of all, IMO, and the finest barring, though they are all very precisely barred. Dottie lays the smallest egg, Ida the largest right now. Couldn't ask for a more beautiful trio of girls. And Rex, that boy, he has been very good since Shelby left. He got a bit over protective over her a couple of times, but he's settled down since she left, and I pet him every day. He's got the loudest voice out there when something flies over, super alert. They're a great bunch. Kathy, I hope you, halo, Wynette and Scott get some awesome chicklets out of them.
