Cyn, they look so comfy!

Kathy, those are some handsome birds! Miranda was acting like she felt somewhat better today. She is spending the night in the coop with Caroline while Isaac is sleeping alone in the broody pen. I just don't want her to be hassled, not to mention those evil women of his are picking at one of his comb points. Poor rooster didn't even struggle when I picked him up and said, c'mon buddy, let's go clean you up again. He's getting used to it, I guess.

Kaaaaattthhhhyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck is up with Maggie?!?!

....... picture this........

Usually, Maggie is sweet and demure, never gets under foot, goes about her business in a totally non-intrusive way, pretty much keeps to herself and associates almost exclusively with her daughter Cossette.

But today....OMG! Today, that girl would NOT take no for an answer! Right in the middle of my daily chicken chores, she comes up to me and positively insisted on being picked up and cuddled! She stands there and pecks at the back of my leg until I drop what I'm doing and pick her up. It's not enough just to reach down and pet her. Oh no! And this is not an isolated incidence. She's been doing this for nearly a week now. Almost every day, she wants loving and she wants it right now!!!! If I'm out in the yard, she comes running over. Not for treats, but for loving. What the heck is up with this girl?!?! Is she about to go broody on me?!?!?

Don't get me wrong. I love the fact that she's being such a little snuggle bug. But it does have me wondering what's going on in that cute fuzzy li'l head of hers! Any ideas?

Oh, and guess who I found in the unused duplex coop tonight at lock up? Cossette! Acting all broody, even though there wasn't a single egg to be found anywhere in the duplex. I've got the sneaking suspicion that those two girls are about to go off the deep end on me!

Maggie has always been stubborn strong headed! That girl has a mind of her own, I swear. She does what she wants, and she expects to get what she wants, when she wants it! Remember, she was the broody that NEVER got on the wrong nest, and NEVER allowed anyone else in her nest to lay an extra egg. It was all her show there. She was the boss here. She had total control of the coop at all times. That was Maggie's land!

You're kidding, right? She has three men to choose from. One she avoids like the plague ['Milio] one she tolerates, [Goobey, son of Chief] and one she completely adores and considers to be her personal stud muffin any time she desires male companionship [that would be Chief]

Noooo Karen, she don't need another man! And I expressly forbid it!

She has three more boys right next door, whom she knows darn well how to access, [e.g. sneaking under the fence line. Yes, she has done it before, much to the distress of my boys, who knew she wasn't supposed to be there!] if the crazy notion should enter that fuzzy faced little brain of hers! No! No! NO! She does NOT need a man!

Kathy, oh don't I know it! That girl had complete control of the flock within three days of her arrival. And her two daughters were firmly ensconced as the accepted "princesses in waiting" within one day of that! OMG! Yes, it's Maggie's world and we're just mobile fixtures within it!

Gawds! I love that girl! Wish I had ten more just like her!

Sounds like my Maretta lately. Ever since I saved her from Isaac's attentions, she thinks I'm her best buddy.

I've decided that I will keep two pea combed roosters from this current hatch, if I get two pea combed males, sired by either Isaac or Rex with Maretta, to be Ike's backup in the main flock. If Dottie's chick is a male, I'll have to sell him. I think Stan may be interested in him (tigercreek). They are due to hatch Saturday.

ETA: The Brahmas will not be living with the D'Anvers. Rufus and Caroline had a Battle Royale, which Rufus won. He had two full size Brahma hens on the run, trying to mate them, but they refused his advances, and Miranda was clicking when she breathed so I got them outta there before she had a heart attack. What a little wild man he is! On a brighter note, Miranda looks much, much better. Amazingly resilient, these old gals of mine! She still has an enlarged abdomen, but her crop is functioning normally and her color is soooo much better.
