Indeed. Speaking of not handling things well ahem Junebug is not handling being a chicken well this weekend. She has been tapping on the front door and yelling to high heaven for our attention. Cheyenne just brought her inside a bit ago and they watched the movie "Ice Age" wherein she was perfectly content to sit in Chy's lap, watching a movie and getting pats. She is outside again....we shall see how long that lasts. She is also teaching Zena these tricks as Zena is observing her non-chicken like demanding.

I know! I know ! ! ! I never would have got any on my own. NOW, I am so grateful that Mary sent me those eggs. I LOVE these two!

OH! LH, I SOOOOO Share the sentiment!!

God help me! They're just too cute and I WANT a pair!!!

Kathy, is Wilma the larger of the two? Who's who? Which is which?

They are now 6 weeks old. Wilma was the second one to hatch, and the smaller of the two. She is now the larger one. Females are usually larger than males. I just didn't expect she would pass him up so quickly. Fred is smaller and wearing a yellow band. Wilma is a wild woman. She runs like the wind!

Kathy, I've been meaning to tell you that your new Delaware line is looking A-OK! If I wanted to start up with them again in the future, I'd be knocking on your email door, lady. They look really great. Of course, Ike has a home here as long as he lives, just for being the spectacular sweet boy he is; he ain't bad looking, either, as witnessed by the interest in the breed he and his ladies generated. I'm very satisfied that you and others became interested in the breed again through him and my girls and set out to improve them even further! Good job!

Oh, I may have a crowing hen! Something is crowing and it isn't Ike, Suede, the D'Anvers or one of the young chicks. It's a younger sounding crow, but an adolescent crow, not a baby crow. I heard it twice this morning and jumped out of bed. We've been hearing it occasionally in the mornings, very close like it's coming from a coop. Tom thought Suede's voice was messed up one day, but it turned out not to be him at all. It's a mystery!

Cyn, I had a period of similar experience, and it liked to drive me crazy! I thought I had a girl out there that was venturing into the realm of the gender benders, but it turned out to be an adolescent roo about an eighth of a mile to the west of us.

Maybe you have a stray roo hiding in the wood pile?!?

Kathy, that's what I thought, but I couldn't remember for sure. If ya ask me, I think they're both a bit on the wild side! Love it when they get a wild hare up their butts and go charging off in every direction!

Karen, how is Clarence this morning? Please keep us posted. Yes, the boys are indeed very special. It was LH's Thor that inspired me and drove me to wanting a boy just like him. [in other words, it's all LH's FAULT!!!

] I now have six boys. Each is very special in his own way, and each has my heart wrapped around his wattles. I'd do anything for my boys within my abilities. It breaks my heart that CB, Red and Brutus still don't have flocks of their own. But they are, by and large, very happy boys. They love their mama and love to be snuggled. Someday, God and the husband willing, they too will have flocks of their own.

Karen, if you ever need a sweetheart boy and don't mind that he would be a purebred mutt, just let me know. As much as it would pain me to say goodbye to one of my boys, I'd be willing to let one go, knowing that he would finally have a flock of his own.

Just let me know.

We're looking at a second consecutive day of nice weather here! A daytime high of 79 is predicted for today.

It's a heat wave!

Break out the suntan lotion!!!

And we're getting two nights at freezing so plants are again in jeopardy. Already lost all the cherries on the trees, some grapes and some of the blueberries, probably all the apples. Hope we don't lose more stuff.

Wish I could figure who is crowing! If it's some stray rooster, he's staying hidden. Folks all around us have roosters, but not as close as this sounded. I'll have to hike through the woods, if my ankle can take it, and search for a stray, maybe guarding his broody hen in my woods.
