Kathy, what a fun video!! I could watch it all day long.

Is that your lake? Looks like heaven on earth there.

Hi, Cynthia, I just went thru that. It was a few weeks till I actually saw my young pullet crow, neck stretch and all.

Serrin , thanks for the offer of a roo, right now I have a Tolbunt in waiting (not planned), and a few waiting to grow up. I've rehomed so many roos in the past, out of them all , there was only 2 I regretted. They were Blue JG's from Kathy. So now, I'm not rehoming any more roos. Thank the Lord that my new cockerels are all Crele Polish. Even my hubby regrets it. They were nice. Luckily I gave the 3rd to my next door neighbor, he was the best one, and not that I like my neighbor, but at least he lives next door and he is good to the chickens. A big boy!!!

Clarence is sleeping on the floor and stands in one spot during the day.Still comes for treats.

Dang Cyn! All of the cherries?!? Crap! That sucks! I love fresh made cherry jelly. It's a lot of work to make it but well worth the effort. We used to have a great pair of Royal Anne cherry trees at out old place in Olympia. Every year I would fill about half of a 5 gallon bucket and get busy! Yummy! Nummy!

Don't be too jealous of our current weather. It has taken us seven months to get back to this. The last time we saw anything about 70 degrees was way the heck back in mid September! Yes, It's been a looooooooong winter! I'm so ready for warmer temperatures and FLOWERS!!!!

Karen, I only ever gave away one roo and regret it to this day. He was such a sweet, sweet boy. The young couple that adopted him were totally irresponsible and let that awesome boy drown in a dang water trough! And that was after they saw him fall in once before! Stupid gits! They were not worthy of Big Red.

Ever since then, I just haven't been able to bring myself to re-home any of my boys. I'm just too afraid that they will fall victim to another clueless owner.

Darn it, darn it, darn it! Riley, my beautiful, sweet blue barred EE hen, daughter of Dutch and Charlotte, half sister to Panda and Gypsy, is ill. I had a hunch that something wasn't right with her a week ago. I knew she quit laying a few weeks prior and lately, she's just seemed off, not perky as usual. I had felt her abdomen, thought it felt a tad too large, then the next day, it seemed okay so we held off on penicillin. A couple of days ago, when they were all inside and I went in, everyone jumped up or ran to me except Riley. She stayed up on the high roost bar in the corner, just looked at me. I knew she didn't feel well. Yesterday, I saw her in a nest, but she left without laying. Today, her abdomen is definitely a bit too large so we are warming the penicillin and hoping to save her. She is one of my Charlotte daughters, we have to try, even though I know all too well how this usually goes.

Once, Snow had quit laying, but kept going to the nest-her abdomen was puffy and we dosed her, apparently caught the infection very early, and she went on to lay again, then stopped for about 8 months. Now, she's laying again regularly, so I'm holding onto that bit of hope for my Riley.

ETA: She's had her first big injection of penicillin. Hoping for the best for her. She's about 3 years old, if I remember correctly.

Wait, I checked and she was hatched the first week of July 2009, so she isn't quite 3 yet. Surprises me, seems she's older than that, but nope.

I found an old picture of her sister that hatched with her. Wish sportster chick would update me on how she looked as an adult. Here's Riley's sister:

And Riley as a young lady:

The lake is behind our house and a bit beyond our property line. It is owned by our neighbor, who we bought our house and land from. They gave us free access to it anytime we want. It really is beautiful. It is well stocked and we fish there alot. We also use a paddle boat or flat bottom (John boat) to float around in. They host big parties out there a couple times a year- complete with live music and BBQ and cooking contests. Now that is some good eatin' ! !

I hope Riley and my Beezus both recover from their ailments. I felt her abdomen again last night and it is bigger. It's about the size of a softball, maybe a bit smaller. And hard.

Clarence laid in the sun for a while and then went back in the coop. I went in there later, and he was standing facing a corner. I feel so bad.

Serrin, that's just the thing. It's very hard to find a good home for a rooster, and I will just keep them. And I'm kinda hatched out. So I have enough roos for now, LOL. And 12 chicks, I'm sure to have a roo or two.

Good luck with Riley, Cyn. It is just awful when we don't know what to do for them.

Kathy, I've been meaning to tell you that your new Delaware line is looking A-OK! If I wanted to start up with them again in the future, I'd be knocking on your email door, lady. They look really great. Of course, Ike has a home here as long as he lives, just for being the spectacular sweet boy he is; he ain't bad looking, either, as witnessed by the interest in the breed he and his ladies generated. I'm very satisfied that you and others became interested in the breed again through him and my girls and set out to improve them even further! Good job!

Thanks, Cyn. I am excited, for sure. I set my first F3 eggs a couple days ago. Just a few. I have only 3 pullets, and they are just at point of lay. I can hardly wait to see how they turn out.
