Karen, I'm so very sorry about Clarence. Though some folks would say you (and I) should have just euthanized the bird when we knew it was hopeless, they sometimes don't understand the connection we have with certain ones. I've put it off and put it off when I felt the bird was not in any real pain. I would much rather just find them gone than watch them go little by little, it's true, and I'd always rather never be the one whose hand does the deed. But, then, I've seen some rally over and over again, and I never know for sure if this is the one time they won't, like with Ivy.

See Kathy I told you Ike was a Wussy ... Suede would not allow such woman handling by the human child. He did allow her to bring treats and pet him but not pick him up like a baby chicken.

Karen, I'm so sorry to hear that Clarence has gone.

Please, don't torture yourself by trying to second guess your decision to let nature take its course. Certainly none of us would dream to pass judgment on you, as most of us have been in your shoes more times that any of us cares to count.

The uninitiated can never know how special these boys are. And no attempt at explanation to the ignorant can ever suffice. Roosters must be experienced first hand to even begin to understand how remarkable some of them are.

Cetawin's Thor, Cyn's Zane, my Chief, your Clarence: They all were, and are, a part of our hearts. I know I'll be a total basket case when Chief's time comes.

Each of us has been witness to amazing moments of bravery from our boys. Of sheer determination to protect their ladies from harm, be it from a predator or a rival. Yes, they can be disturbingly violent in such cases. And yet, we have also witnessed them turn around a moment later and spend time in quiet companionship with their favorite girl, or stand guard over the youngest of the flock. They are capable of such astounding acts of compassion and empathy, both with their own kind and us.

Is it any wonder that the Chinese revered the rooster above nearly all other animals and chose them to be the very embodiment of everything good and noble that they aspired to be?

Man, what massive legs on Isaac! Very nice pictures.

Kathy, now Emu videos? You just seem to be enamored with these emus. I like seeing them grow up, they just get bigger and bigger.........

Sad news. My Clarence passed away today.

Sem, that was my first thought when I saw that picture!

Thanks. I don't know. Axe is so violent. It is the way, but he did enjoy his last meal the night before. I know he wasn't in any pain, but how do rate wasting till you die? I don't know how painful that is.
He was special. He started as an egg left in my car by a neighbor's chicken.

Cheyenne has officially work Speckledhen and husband out. It will take till next week before they are right again. Ike is ruined for good. LOL

OK, where the heck is the tool bar that's usually at the top of the reply box?!? Am I the only one not seeing it? Or has this become another of those feature that you can't access unless you're a paying member?

Y'all better keep a close eye on Suede and an even closer eye on Cheyenne or she's gonna ruin him too!! Hahahaha!
