Those are really pretty hens, Kathy!

maizy'smom, just to be clear, that wasn't me! That poor woman only shares my first and last name. I read about her years ago. When that happened to her in Alaska, I was living in Colorado, pregnant with my first child on a military base.
Whew! Still an amazing story, one way or the other. When I was first married, I lived in the same zip code, was in the same profession, even went to the same OB/GYN as another woman with the same first and last name. I have since added my maiden name as my middle name just because of that. I got yelled at for missing her doctors' appointments and congratulated for her art exhibits.

Kathy, those buff barred are gorgeous!!

I love watching the roos for the most part but... yesterday I had the black chickens out and a hawk flew over head. Roy, the NH saw it and gave the warning. [He was in a coverd run.] Black Jack the BA rooster was standing out with the black girls and he did nothing and so neither did the girls. So I just started waving my arms and then they ran for cover

Also, Soloman the delaware rooster won't let any of the girls out of the run in the morning till he goes out. Fine, I guess he is just checking things out first to make sure all is safe. But then when the girls start coming out he chases them so much so he can "do his thing" and they don't want anything to do with him.

Cyn, that is crazy! I knew it couldn't be you because of those wonderful quilts you make. I had a close friend in school whose last name was Bacon. I didn't think it was very common.

When we lived in Utah the first time, there was a Thomas Bacon two streets over from us (street name started with the same letter) with bad credit. The middle initial was different, but we got some calls meant for him.

When we moved back to GA, some collection agencies kept calling me because some other woman with my name skipped out on a bunch of bills and, if I recall, also stole some money. I had my name in the phone book since I was a realtor and, since I was the only one with that name in the book, the ijits assumed I was the one they were looking for, never mind the SSN's didn't match. I even got legal papers to appear in court in the mail a couple of times. What a bunch of dunces! Why would I put my name right in the phone book if I was that much of a deadbeat? Not to mention, there were several women with the same name in the area, just happened they were of a different race than me.

What a PITA!

I took some pictures of my Buff Barred Columbians (Project Delaware F2s) today. I have 6 of them (all female, as expected). Some are darker than others. I imagine it has to do with how many barred genes they have. I call them Rockshires..... Buff Barred Rockshires.

Those girls sure grew up to be some lookers huh? I had my first Buff-barred pullet hatch out of my Easter bunch can't wait till she gets all "growed-up" too. When my Horstman RIR get grown and up to speed I'm going to be using them to try for those "ultimate" Red barreds. Mrs. Kathy I even have takersons Red-barred rooster as my screen saver(goal) un,huh.LOL

The Bacon name is an old southern name so probably not that common out of the south. Tom's family settled Dorcester, Mass in the 1500's, then moved down and eventually, founded Dorcester, GA.
I am sure, with the last name Bacon, you are familiar with the game: six steps to Kevin Bacon, or something to that effect? Well, I can claim a connection to him in two steps. I used to wait on his father, Ed Bacon, at the Center City Philadelphia branch of The Nature Co. We had several discussions about the various telescopes we carried. My brother can claim a one step connection....he was in line behind Kevin at a deli in New York City.
In high school, one of the guys in our play was a Bacon. My fiend's father said it was a fitting name for such a ham. (Sorry, I love a good pun.)

Beautiful pics!

Cyn, my "Bacon" friend has a brother named Michael too.

...and of course, a new picture of my up-and-coming flock rooster, Gideon. He is going to be so miffed with me when I remove him from the bantam pullets and put him and Dru in the main flock in a few weeks. He likes the bantam ladies. Dru is a bossy butt, like most BR girls, plus she's the biggest in there, so she thinks she's all that.
