Well LH, 13 is a lucky number

This morning DH told me that something got our bird feeder down and smashed it to pieces. We assumed it was a coon. My MIL just called [they live next door thru the woods] and said that they had a bear show up during the night and destroy their bird feeders. She got a good look at it due to having a mercury light, and said it was a big black bear

So now I am thinking that the bear was here too. I am going to set out the trail cams and insist that DH carry a gun with him when he goes for his walks in the woods.

Yes Kathy, I think it is very scary! Then my FIL just came over looking to see if he could see any tracks along the driveway and went home thru the woods!! I told him he should have a gun with him. I am going to aks DH to have one handy for me.

LH wasn't to keep all those babies she took back with her so her rooster overload is temporary. Having access to a local swap as she does, it will be much easier for her to liquidate the extras than it is for me here, so she was doing me a favor by taking them back with her, which I so appreciate! And that group does contain some beautiful little pullets...and her Little Love that she has been coveting since the last time she visited.

Still, why do we love the roosters so much?? It's a curse, I tell you!

Speaking of bears, I'm famous... or at least, my name is. Read to the red, bolded print in resume below. Of course, most bears run from humans unless you get between a mother and cubs. We have had a mama bear and cub in the neighborhood before. Yup, I'd walk with a sidearm in your n'hood for the time being, Laura.

Project). The overall objectives of the Fortymile study are to 1) characterize the nature of the mineralization, associated metasedimentary and metavolcanic host rocks, and igneous intrusions by means of petrography, radiometric and conodont dating, whole rock and mineral chemistry, and stable isotopic analysis of outcrop and drill core samples; 2) utilize ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) scenes across the area to identify vegetation stressed by underlying sulfides, and to identify and delineate surface expressions of known and undiscovered base-metal and silver prospects; 3) identify buried plutons and structural/ deformational/ lithologic controls on mineralization utilizing airborne and ground-based geophysics; and 4) determine the tectonic framework that controlled plutonism and mineralization in the Fortymile District through geologic and kinematic field investigations. Cynthia is also completing several journal articles on her recently concluded study of the bedrock geology and metallogenesis of the Bonnifield volcanic-hosted massive sulfide deposits in the northern Alaska Range.

Holy what-a-bear-does-in-the-forest! God bless you!

I don't love them. They are a pain in the butt to house too many of them. Well, a few I do..... but then, I don't, "interact," much with them either. I do love watching the roosters out free ranging and watching over the hens. It is cool how my roosters in the layers coop all work together. They all seem to know their place. The boys are always on the perimeter of a group, it seems. The girls (heads down) eating, and the boys (heads up) alert.

I wish they would chase off these damnable geese!

I took some pictures of my Buff Barred Columbians (Project Delaware F2s) today. I have 6 of them (all female, as expected). Some are darker than others. I imagine it has to do with how many barred genes they have. I call them Rockshires..... Buff Barred Rockshires.

Those are really pretty hens, Kathy!

maizy'smom, just to be clear, that wasn't me! That poor woman only shares my first and last name. I read about her years ago. When that happened to her in Alaska, I was living in Colorado, pregnant with my first child on a military base.
