This is my paralyzed hen who decided not to be paralyzed anymore. She just couldn't live in a cage anymore, but didn't need to be picked on.
I put her in with silkies because they have raised some Polish in the past and see them as their children, LOL.
Birds are so fragile and vulnerable. These amazing photos captured a drama with two of these little creatures. Kudos to the photographer. The newspapers that carried these photos sold out in every country.
HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
A female bluebird was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road, and the condition was soon fatal.
Her male mate brought her food and attended her with love and compassion.
He brought her food again, but was shocked to find her dead.
He tried to move her - a rarely seen effort.
Aware his mate was dead and would never come back to him
again, he cried out with adoring love
. . . and stood beside her with sadness and sorrow.
Millions of people were touched after seeing these photos in America, Europe, Australia, and even India. The photographer so ld these pictures for a nominal fee to the most famous newspaper in France. All copies of that edition sold out on the day these pictures were published.
You have just witnessed love and sorrow felt by God's creatures.
The Bible says that God knows when a sparrow falls.
Imagine how much He cares for us!
Live simply, love generously, care deeply, give fully

Oh Wow Kathy...that is amazing. Sad and wonderful at the same time.
SeminoleWind....My grandmother....she was one of the best bead workers on our reservation. I began beading when I was around 8 or so...loom beading and gradually moved to other styles. I love doing it. Suede was the first animal I have tried to bead as a likeness from a picture. I am proud of him. It was a toss up for me to do Suede or Zane but I thought Zane's barring would be impossible to get correct. With Suede getting the blues correct was a challenge because the do not make beads in those shades so the color palette took awhile to decide on.
The bluebird story reminds me of some amazing things I've seen in my own chickens that folks who think of them as just livestock never see. If you watch without preconceived notions, you will see.
I've watched the various second-in-command hens guard the head hen as she was in her final days. I've watched the head hen guard and tend to her second-in-command, like Caroline is doing now with Amanda who has a serious leg issue and lays under the coop or in the coop most of the day. Caroline rarely leaves her side. The dignity and compassion and even sense of duty they show is touching and I am blessed to have witnessed this on many occasions, as is Ladyhawk.
I wish big old Suede was as blue as he was in his younger days. He is almost as blue, right after his molt is complete, which is in progress right now, with new blue feathers coming in on his head and saddle area, but he slowly turns back to brassy over time until his next molt happens. He's starting to show his age in his face now, but it's a kind face with soft, wise eyes.
Awwwww my big blue love is still so handsome. It tickles me everytime I look into Hector's have because he looks so very much like his father in the face...except the red feathers of course which are from mom. But the eyes and expressions are that of Suede.
By the way...Suede is almost done...I began punching holes and tying him to the hoop last night with sinew.
For anyone interested, the story and pics of our loss of Delilah aka the sumo kung fu chicken is in illnesses and injuries under the title leg injury and infection etc. It is graphic but it may help someone else sometime. RIP beautiful Delilah.
I have to post that picture of Hector you sent me because it's taken from the same side as his daddy above. Isn't he gorgeous????
The logging continues and they are up at the top of the hill at the fence now, at least on one side, the coop side of the property. What was dense woods with only the faintest of walking trails is now showing mountains I could only see the barest hint of through the trees, even in winter:
