Great pictures there, Tim !
I sure do love those barred rocks!

Kathy I have to ask. Is there a reason for raising Emus ? Other than the fun of it I mean. Will they be on the dinner table or served in some fancy restaurant that I can't afford?

Well take care,

No reason - just for fun. Although emu meat is suppose to be very healthy and quite tasty. Most prized from the emu is the oil. The feathers are great, too! I am going to meet an emu farmer who lives less than an hour away from me. He used to have over 600 emus. He started back in 1990s. Now, he keeps only a few (less than 20, I think he said). He is going to give me some eggs to give to my artist friend, to carve.

I don't. I've gotten one egg since I've been back from AL on the 27th of Nov. I did find an egg in the straw on the floor of the run but had no idea how long it had been there. I'm going to put a light in the coop and if they don't start laying they're history. I also have two SLW's in there and they aren't laying either. But they sure can eat. 100#'s of feed and no eggs?

Ok! I need a shout out from everyone in GA. SC. Al. about how they got through this weather. The Mtns. got lots of wind and 3 and 1/2 inches of rain but relatively well. Yard-full-of- rocks how bout you (Scott)? Oh! how are those beautiful Columbian Rocks coming? Gloria Jean

Thanks for thinking of us. I am in Las Vegas on a business trip and just spoke to my wife. The kids were in the hallways of the schools today for approx 3 hrs due to the tornado warnings. There was one major tornado (see info here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/30/adairsville-georgia-tornado_n_2582408.html?ir=Green) that caused a massive amount of damage about 10 miles north of our house. Fortunately no damage for us, just a "rough" day, lots of wind and rain

Thanks again for asking

Well I'm glad everyone is ok. Good garden o' peas! I'm trying to keep this thread alive but it ain't easy. Guess every one is busy.

Hope everyones chickens are staying put and not blowing away.

We had three panels of stockade fencing blow off and in one case it just snapped the post right in two. Fortunately there is wire fencing up too and no chickens got away. It's raining here right now, and windy.

Earlier I was able to go out and reinforce the panels that are still up. It's gonna be a long time before I can dig a new post hole though.

Kathy - an update on those BR's. I got an egg today from the coop. I also put in a light today too. Left it on til I got home from church at 9:00. Will put it on and hope things improve. Everyone seems healthy so it can't be anything but lack of light.

Scott - beware of pick pockets and loose women while your in Vegas.

It is not true what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. My uncle found out the hard way, when this showed up on his doorstep, nine months after he got back.

Well everyone take care and be safe.

Tim - you are crazy!

My Barred Rocks aren't laying well yet either. They will be soon though. My New Hampshires are laying like crazy though! I don't use lights.

I've been thinking. I have a few folks I need to hatch for. Other than them, I don't really want to do a bunch of hatching this year. I have other things to do, and I hate keeping them penned. I like to enjoy my chickens - out and around the yard. Anyway, that is what I am thinking about.

You all stay safe! Keep an eye on the weather!
Blessings to you all.
