Well right now the incubator has more Birchen Marans eggs in it than anything else. They are nice big eggs, over 2.0 oz.

These BR's are great birds if you want them for meat and just need to lay a little better for a good dual purpose bird. I figure it's been so over cast here that that may be a problem.

What's more I read an article of a woman who's chickens stopped laying when she went in for surgery and didn't lay again til she came home. I figure perhaps these BR's were upset with changes may while I was in AL and just need to see more of me to feel comfortable to lay. I am dead serious about it too.

You are more important to your flock than you think.

Ok! I need a shout out from everyone in GA. SC. Al. about how they got through this weather. The Mtns. got lots of wind and 3 and 1/2 inches of rain but relatively well. Yard-full-of- rocks how bout you (Scott)? Oh! how are those beautiful Columbian Rocks coming? Gloria Jean
Thanks, Gloria Jean We are ok. Hope everybody is safe.
We lost power for a few min. The wind is still bad today and it cold wind. The weather man said the high in the mid lows in 50 today.. It was 80 yesterday. This weather is wild.

My br. has been interested in my two dels but I think it is the color not the hen really, he is not a breeder by far. I thought I would get some and share the hatch with him. I love to hatch eggs. The hatch I am doing now will be finished on Mon. They are a mix of my wheaten ameracuanas and marans etc ees etc. I can barely wait to see what I get. Its mostly to let my granddaughter see the process.

Ive got two CR's in the incu and about 14 Birchen marans. A couple of Dels and an Orp. The EE's weren't good and I think there is a problem. I think their upset by the CR rooster.

I will have to move them. Along with the Lav Amer rooster.

This is my first setting this yr. I one roo, an ameracuanna wheaten, he is over a pretty EE hen , a nice little wheaten AM hen, a Fr, bl copper marans hen, and one egg from a Mixed hen of Fr. bl copper marans and eng. bl. orp. Boy what a mix she is but she lays a beautiful cho. egg. I hope to get some olive eggers and blue egg layers. Its my luck they will be boys.!!!. Well, Its mostly for my grand daughters pleasure anyway this time. I have 16 eggs at 18 days.

That is very interesting Tim. Let me know if you hang out a little more in the coop (on warmer days

) and they start to lay more.

Scott,
How do the Cl Rocks lay? I am seriously thinking of ordering some of your eggs. The hens sure are pretty. Are they as large as the barred rocks?
GJ

These Col Rocks lay well, BUT they do take a little longer to get started. Mine are along the line of 26-28 weeks before starting. However, my pullets that began laying in Oct/Nov are laying a large to extra large egg, 3-4 days a week. I do have lights on them

If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll work with you like I did with Rancher (Tim)

Thanks

I will testify that the CR's are nice birds. Largest I have and seem to be doing well. They are certainly a breed I would keep if I had to choose something other than Dels. Hopefully it won't come to that.
