Janelle, thank goodness you were not hurt. Goodness be careful. I am sorry about the two babies but you are right...mama knew that is why she was pushing it away. That is hard to watch when they do that because as humans we want to try to help and give them a chance..mama on the other hand knows it is weak and she must take care of the healthy babies.

I am so sorry NellaBean...

I guess those things just happen sometimes...

We live in a very rainy climate, and we have wooden stairs. My dad is going to put sandpaper strips on them, because when it has been wet for a while, they get slimy and slick as ice. Then of course when it does freeze, they ARE ice. I have wiped out on those stairs more times than I can count. When we have packages coming in the winter (when we have the most rain) I encourage the mailmen to pull up and honk outside as opposed to making their own way up the stairs.

.............

I "banded" (actually cut up water baloons) some of my chicks on weather or not I thought they were male or female. The ones that already have tails, I marked female (orange baloon) and then the one or two with extra hefty legs got marked with the purple (for male). Right now it seems predominately female... hopefully I am right! (I am also hoping that sicky-chick's tail isn't developed yet just cuz she was a bit behind... lol, this sweet I want her to be a hen!)

"ToMORrow, toMORrow, I LOVE ya, toMORrow, tomorrow is Joleta's Day" hum, hum, hum. sing at the top of my lungs!!!!! hehehehe

Nella, you be careful!!! And I too am sorry about the little ones, that would break my heart -

Amy, I got your pm, will answer later when I have time, I am at work and only have stolen moments to get on here!

Hey RedFeather...if you want to PM me your address i will send you "chick bands" I bought something like 500 on ebay a while back. they are just the tiny little dog hair rubberbands.....I can send you a little baggie of each size (I think there are two sizes).

Not sure if they will fit your current chicks.....maybe for the dellies next year? ha ha. I use them for the same thing....I band PURPLE for definite pullets, BLUE for definite boys....then one color for probably girls and one color for probably boys.

Here was the most minor injury of this morning's tumble. I didn't even notice it until I went to shower (again). My butt and hip are the worst. My left butt cheek is actually SWOLLEN. I know you all needed that mental picture. I am going to be black and blue within a few days. I think I bounced down the steps. Stupid steps.

Holy smokes Janelle.....I'd watch that swelling!! Lots of water and ibuprofen and if it doesn't go down I think a call to the doc might be in order!!!!

I actually broke my tail-bone several year ago and that is a really "pain in the butt" while it heals. Don't ignore it if it causes you trouble.

Hope you get to feeling better

YAY! I am waiting to hear from Tony tomorrow to either "yes, pick up this afternoon" or "No pickup early Sat. morning". YAY I picked up (24) 16' rough cut oak boards this morning for her stall (with the help of scbatz33). hopefully I get them all put up before Joleta arrives, if not, my neighbor, Virginia, is going to let me paddock her at her place for a day or so if needed. Her hubby is coming down saturday morning with his tractor to help me run fencing for Joleta to have some run room until the fencing can be redone in Spring. We are expecting rain n snow mix tomorrow, I cannot find my circular saw to cut those big boards but I do have a chain saw so vroom vroom.

Whew, busy day .....

Got my oil changed, and I got 4 new tires on my work truck .... errrr, mini-van. Now I can safely travel all over the country, right?

Delware news ... Oliver got into it with someone. I don't know who, but he had blood on his hackles. Darn it.... Poor Jacob is molting and his neck is lacking alot of hackles. The silly girls are getting to be a pain in the butt when I am trying to do chores .... always under foot, ya know. They follow me everywhere and will NOT move!

I am going to the ILL-MO show on Saturday.

I plan to take lots of pictures. I will be sorely disappointed if it just a bunch of bantams. I hope there are large fowl represented in good numbers. I am taking a couple cages with me to pick up 2 trios of New Hampshires, so I can begin my venture to produce a new strain of Delawares.

It may not work out, but I am gonna try it ..... what the heck! According to the "recipe," it will take 3 generations. I may end up with a freezer full, but I think it will be fun.

*wondering if 2 cages will be enough*
