I just love Kathy's brand of downsizing, don't you? LOL.

Best wishes on your new venture! We do need a new line of Delawares, don't we?

That is how chicken math works, ya know.....

It appears, by history, my method works out like this .....
hatch a bunch of chicks of breeds "I just have to have." Grow them out. When they get to point of lay ...... change my mind, and get rid of them.

Start over ..... and over ..... and over again!

Anyone interested in a few Buckeyes? One rooster and 4 pullets. By the way, one gal has started to lay!
Or, how about some RIRs? (Also one has started laying) Anyone? I have 5 rosecomb and 4 straight comb girls, and 3 straight comb roosters. I don't want this strain. I am starting over with Pine Grove's chicks in the spring.

Icelandics are still here .... but, only because DD and her BF made them a special pen (which I wanted for myself!).... OH, and one of those girls has now laid her first egg, too!

My Layers Coop is now occupied by a bunch of grow-outs ......

Kathy and I have the same downsizing genes.

Another chick hatched today under the big rir/cochin. I stole it tonight and gave it to LH's little bantam hen. It is an adorable SUPER FLUFFY blue chick. I would guess that all of these brown egg chicks are jersey giant crosses. My big roosters are blue cochins, so i would guess this chick is a cochin/giant cross.

you can see it in the bottom left. This mama is very good about taking new chicks without a fuss. There are only 2 or 3 eggs left that are not from the 10/24 batch of eggs i set. So hopefully in the next few days they will hatch and I can stop adding on to the bantam hen and the silkie and giant rir/cochin girl will just get to keep whatever chicks they hatch out.

My butt is actually black and blue already. Gross. My arm looks the same as earlier, my knee looks pretty good and my hip has a small scrape and bruise combo. Definitely going to winterproof those steps this weekend. I am nearly positive nothing is broken. Just sore. On the one hand, my big old butt probably saves me when I make these ridiculous falls....on the other hand, my big ol butt if heavy and thats a lot of weight hitting the ground LOL.

REmember i mentioned the shelter cat that had been there 4 years? Well they finallyemailed me back. Apparently their petfinder ad is out of date. The cat has been there since 2004. Yikes. I am going to email them back and see what they say. Maybe I will go visit her this weekend?

Dang, I want those Buckeyes, but I only have room for whatever Dels I might be able to get at Ohio. Shoot!

Nella, you need a good soak in epsom salts, and some bed rest. With a great chicken magazine and some chocolate!

OK Janelle! Front and Center! You know you just have to have a lecture from me too about home safety and related injuries resulting from slippery steps!!

Go to your favorite place and mine: The Home Depot! They have these marvelous self adhering non skid strips that are just for the slippery stairs/decks issue we all face in the winter.

They range in size anywhere from 1.5 inch on up to about 8 inch deep. Length depends on if you buy it by the roll or, as in the case of the 8 inch stuff, the pre-cut size to fit 36 inch stair treads. Usually comes in black, but I think maybe I've seen white once or twice before. Only problem is, I can't remember which department they were in. Might have been near lumber, but more likely either in hardware or over by the paint department?

As for your injuries themselves: You really need to go to a doctor straight away! If there are unseen damages inside, the earlier it's treated, the better off you're going to be in the long run.

When I fell 9 feet from the loft [and NO! My big butt didn't NOT help that situation one bit!

] it wasn't discovered until far too late to do anything about it that I had in fact broken two thoracic vertebrae. That was two years and one month ago to the day. It's a day I really wish I had to do all over again.

Even if I couldn't avoid the accident, knowing what I know now, I would have insisted that x-rays or better yet, CAT scans be taken of my back. They could have fixed it in the beginning back then. By the time we figured out exactly what was causing all of my pain, it was too late to perform the procedures that would have saved me a ton of future pain. And why did we NOT find the cause sooner? Because my BUTT was screaming too loudly the whole time for the issue with the back to be heard by the brain. Considering how close of neighbors my butt and my back are, it's really not surprising.

So, listen to your Auntie Amy, do the smart thing, and have an x-ray done of your pelvic and lumbar and thoracic vertebrae done. NOW! Don't take a chance on it! Cuz I sure wouldn't want to see our NellaBean go through more pain than she already has!

Well, I almost got a chance to get pictures of Maggie and the girls today. Would have done it too! If only I had known that the last picture of that beautiful meadow I had taken this morning was the last picture my batteries were up to recording in my camera!

*sigh* You'd think with two chargers and about 20 AA batteries, I'd have at least ONE pair that is fully charged all the time. Wouldn't you? Tomorrow gang! Tomorrow!

Hey Cetawin! I've kind of lost track of a few of the conversations here on account of hunting season..... Are ya getting excited at all about Joleta Bey yet??
gig.gif
Can't wait to see the pictures of her arrival.

OK, gotta scoot. Dinner needs to be put on the table, boys put to bed, yadda, yadda, yadda! Take care gang. Have a nice evening and a great day tomorrow!

Yes Amy I am VERY excited....she is being picked up either tomorrow evening or sat. morning I will know tomorrow sometime for sure which. YAY

Janelle, I will tell you what my son told me when I was the ancient age of 27 years old (kid was 6 so I let him live)....Mama you are too old to ride dirtbikes on a motocross track besides "Old People Do Not Heal Well". Go get yourself checked out woman. BTW he told me that one morning when waking me up to tell me to please not go motocross riding that day. I informed the child that as an act of survival...never wake a woman up and tell her she is old or too old to do anything...they will kill you and never fully wake up to care about it.

Kathy, the transport guy is actually coming from Michigan having dropped off horses there today/tonight. So I am saved from some fast talking to DH for chickens arriving from MO. LOL

Janelle, What Amy said! Listen to her!

Dang, I am cold here! Can you believe this luck .... We bought this house 4 years ago. It was a couple years old. We have replaced water heaters in the main house and the guest house. We have repaired the air conditioning in the main house, and the entire heating/air conditioning unit in the guest house. We replaced the fuse box stuff in the outside buildings. We have had the leads (is that what they are called) from the septic system all redone and enlarged. We replaced something on the furnace already, and now another $400 on it. What the heck???? Everything is just out of warranty when it breaks down.

If it isn't household upkeep, then it is automobile upkeep.

Geeezzzzz, guess I had better get a job.
