LMAO Beth...toerag works in many situations. hahahaha Thor bit me once too and immediately got the "THOR NO!" and he just hung his head and would not look at me. He did not like change either, I think they get very used to one thing and then you put something new or long ago forgotten in there and they flip a little.

Cyn, I think you should make him hold Suede and Ike for their spur and nail trims.

If he is afraid of Georgie, Suede in his lap should make him pack real fast like. I am surprised Gypsy wasn't all over him. She drove me nuts until I finally grabbed her up, carried her awhile and then tossed her in with Zane. LOL

serrin, Brew and Rosie sound quite comical. Sounds like an entertaining morning in the coop for you!

Beth, I am sure Ultrasuede is sorry for his little biting incident. It was all a mistake, poor judgement, because the shoes confused him.

Well, Ultrasuede is forgiven- everyone is allowed a mistake or two in their lives- and he is normally a dear! And considering that he came up from behind me, I had the muck boots on, and I have been eating ice cream by the truck loads, he probably did think I was some evil invader. Brewenna, move over. I am here!

Oh, yeah, Cyn, I think your little blue one is looking boyish to me, too -

well, that gives Cetawin one more choice - I know Lancelot is a keeper, but she needs more Suede children, right?

I think you should let Charlotte, Georgie and Gypsy into DS's bedroom tonight!

Kathy I have three hens and they don't all lay each day. Three hens that I want chicks from. She's been on the nest for two days already. So I'll watch and take the first chicks and put them back when the others are hatched. I hope to have six eggs for her but today the three only laid two eggs. These three are WNY girls and I don't know how old they are and I've got to get their replacements soon. I've had them at least a year so I figure they're at least two. Maybe older.

I've never had a broody lay a bunch of her own eggs to hatch so I'm not sure how they do it. Do they just keep laying an egg a day and then start to brood? What do they do in the mean time, while waiting until they have enough eggs?

I'm trying to keep records of whose chicks are whose. Though right now I've only recorded the hens numbers. I'll have to figure how to band the chicks so I know each. Of course Nick will be the dad so that will be easy. I don't have enough space to seperate each hen to herself and record individual eggs.

Of course there are bantams, she has a fluffy butted bantam herself.

The Princess would be very displeased to hear your fowl position on this subject.

Serrin, that girl could use a few more fruit dishes and a salad...you are ruining her girlishy figure.
gig.gif

Ruining it? Oh honey! She done went and did that all by herself years ago!! There's no hope for a girlish figure now. She's so fat that she can't even get out of her own way on most days.

But then there are times she surprises the living daylights out of me! Like when she decides to beat the crap out of Brutus and chases HIM around the yard for a few minutes. That girl, despite the unrepentant bulk of her, can really move when she wants to!

Beth: Oh most definitely she's a keeper. Ever so much more so, now that I have proof positive that she is the one who lays the mondo huge egg!

Besides, she's just so dang sweet. Not a mean bone in her body really. Never says diddly until someone provokes her. If that happens, all bets are off!

What I do is to save the eggs up for a few days, while the broody is sitting on wooden eggs or the likes. Then, I take all the eggs I have saved and put them under her. Then, they all hatch at the same time, or close to it. It is a good idea to take the first chicks out if she gets up off the nest to go care for them, so she will finish the hatch, I have found. If she stays on the nest and eggs, I just leave them all alone. I have even hatched eggs out of the refrigerator under a broody, as a friend wanted some Easter Eggers and I had all the eggs in the frig. I don't recommend it, but it worked. I usually store the eggs in my basement (on an egg turner) where it is cooler, until I put them under the broody or into an incubator.

Okay update on my kiddos...

The two orp babies I currently have here of Sarah's. She thought they were dark blue and hatch but they are clearly black so she will take them back. I think she has a pair also.

Check out Severus in the background of that one shot. Ya think maybe he knows his days as flock master are numbered? Just look at the way Lancelot stands guard over Ebony!

That's going to be an awesome little guy in his own right!

And knowing how sweet Cyn's birds tend to be, coupled with how much love and affection you're known to lavish on babies Cetawin, that little guy really doesn't have much of a choice other than to be a total sweetie, does he?
lol.png

I can hardly wait to see the day when he takes the whole flock out for free range, knowing that he is The Man! You will snap lots of pictures of that day, won't you dear Lady Hawk?? Please!?!?!

ETA: Has anyone else ever noticed how completely content Cheyenne looks any time she has a chick or chicken in her hands or on her lap or shoulder??? I think that's what they mean by a beatific smile, ain't it?
wink.png
Men will forever wish that they could be the object of that smile!
