Oh Beth! I'm sorry to hear that she is leaving you. She sounds like she has been such a wonderful little friend to have around. The fact that she came all the way up the hill, just to find YOU, makes her that much more special.

It always fills my heart with such warmth to know that these special souls roam the Earth with us. And it makes it that much harder to say goodbye to them when their time has come.

I hope you can always remember, that it was you that she chose to be her friend. Keep that thought at the center of your heart and let it warm you with its glow always.

May her passing be swift and peaceful.

I'm so sorry about Henrietta, Beth. Olivia is going downhill fast. Lexie and Livvie's sister, Tux, are both having issues. Tux is trying to come back into lay after her molt and it isn't working for her, exactly the way Olivia's started. Gosh, will this never end??

Laura, I just love your new coop and run. I bet you won't be worrying about predators getting at your birds any more. Well, at least not while they're in their run or coop at least.

This is something I really need to get around to before the snows return. I'm all but shaking in my shoes at the thought of winter approaching. Especially after the long range weather outlook I heard on the news the other day. The folks at NOAA are saying that La Nina is developing very quickly and with great gusto already. In other words, it's going nearly exactly the same way it did for the winter of 2008-2009. And that one broke every record in the books for snowfall totals, low temperatures, days of total cloud cover, consecutive days of never getting above freezing, and consecutive days with snow on the ground. Yeah...that was a very bad winter here.

I really want to improve their covered run so that I'm not having to shovel it off every 2 hours that it snows. Thanks for posting pictures of your run Laura. It has given me some great ideas for ours!

Oh please Great Spirit, a long and mild autumn would be very much appreciated, please!

A long and mild autumn would be a very good thing- Amy, thanks for filling us in on that little weather prophecy. I have been waiting to hear what the predictions are, I am going to start stocking up on canned goods and a few other things right now! This will push DH into finishing up his little project to add gas logs.
And speaking of projects, Hillbilly- that is a great idea and a great job on that coop!

Thanks for everyone's sympathies on Henrietta- I am scared to go out to the barn this morning, but I don't know if I am more afraid to find her gone, or still here- Cynthia, I am so sorry to hear Tux is having issues now- your beautiful senior ladies are so special, so sweet. Hopefully she will snap out of this and an egg will be forthcoming! And Livvie. . . . .

I cry every time I talk to Henrietta- I try not to as it makes her restless, but it's so hard not to. There is no one to stand over her or be with her but me; Hermione always teamed up with Harriet, and spends her time stalking around the run giving Ultrasuede flirty looks and glaring at the babies who took Harriet away from her. Henrietta was always alone. And that just breaks my heart.

Hillbilly Hen I think that is an awesome coop and run. The girls and boy (thought I saw a boy) are gonna love that. Plus they will be safe! Excellent recycling!

Beth, I am so sorry she is alone, is there anyone who could stay with her that would could handle the situation? I know that is a lot to ask of another hen for sure.

If I could, I would so surely be there to hold her for you Beth, as you go about your day at work.

These special little girls...........

They really do manage to occupy a huge portion of our hearts, don't they?

Don't be afraid to check on her Beth.

If she's still with you, she may simply be waiting so that she might say goodbye to her best friend. If she is already gone, consider it her last selfless act to spare you the heart pain of watching her go.

Hillbilly, I wish I had seen this type of run before I built mine. I am curious to see how it stands up to the snow. My run last year did not and I had to rebuild it. I am planning to build one similar to your run on the end of one of my runs.
I like the roosting area and can't seem to figure out how to build one for 20 birds. I'm not satisfied with my "ladder type". I can't seem to figure out how to get the most use from a 10' high coop. If I had built it from scratch I would built it lower and slanted like the coops of old.

Well in either case you've done a nice job. Perhaps we can start a posting of pics of coops in the winter.

Winter? NO, not ready for that! Fortunately, we don't have alot of snow here, usually. We moved 300 miles south to avoid the snow overload we always got at home in Iowa. MUCH better here, in that respect.

Good morning to you all. I'm half way through the first pot of coffee, and discover my air conditioner making weird noises. I have turned it off, and now waiting for a repair man to check it out.

I do not understand how we can have soooo many things happen (broken water pipes, water heater, etc.... ) happen in a new house (6 years old now). GEZZZ ! ! !
