Ditto what Cetawin said, Beth. I can't begin to send you enough hugs right now. Get a good night sleep tonight. Tomorrow will come in its own sweet time. And through whatever events the day may hold, know that we're here for you!

She passed sometime between 2 and 4 am. I have buried her, with tears and also rejoicing that she is free of it and in the better place.
Thank you, my friends, for being with me in spirit and "seeing" me through it- I appreciate that more than you will know.

Thank you- it has been a tough morning. She hardly weighed anything. I know this sounds odd, but I buried her in the compost pile on the spot that I met her in - we have an extensive area due to the horses, and it is deep and heavy - I actually can dig deeper there than I can in the earth,so I don't think anything will get her there. She has so little to decompose, and the area itself is so full of decomposing horse poo, shavings and old hay. It was sentimental, but it is the spot that kept coming into my mind- I will always remember looking down and seeing her for the first time- plus as she was slowing down over the last months, she would get down to the bottom of it on the other side of the barn and not be able to get back up, and I would have to go down and rescue her- boy did she HATE being picked up! Somewhere, I think she was somehow related to a blue orp.

Beth I am so sorry but so relieved she did not suffer long and is now scratching in green pastures with our other feathered friends.

Bet she is flirting with Thor, who is showing her juicy bugs and where the grapes grow! She always had this little twinkle in her eye-

Beth, I know you sort of got her by accident, but if you want this little BR pullet chick I have with the Blue Orp cockerel, you're welcome to her. I'm getting more sure by the day that the Orp is male, but I'm not going to stamp his little tushie as "ROO" till another week or so. If it does turn out to be a pullet and I still have the BR pullet (she is in BSA with her brother as a pair) then you can take them both, if you want.
