Cyn, you march out there to Miss Nugget and tell her that LadyHawk said "Enough, get your butt out of that nest because there will be no brooding in December...I won't have it! Now Move It Wench" see if that helps. Oh but tell her from a distance in the event she Flys Hot

Silly Silly Woman

SnowHunter that is a beautiful baby and a good looking old gal. She did a great job.

SnowHunter- I just noticed you're in GA. Have you been to the Georgia thread?

Nuggs can't decide if she really wants babies or not. She did lay her egg today, then got off and ran around, so she's not quite there, but she's definitely close. She'll cluck and flare up, then just talk to me, then those neck feathers start to rise and she'll growl and cluck, cluck, cluck as she runs around. I remember distinctly the last time she was broody--she was a clucky nutcase for days till one night at roost time, she went to the nest and stayed. Then she was ready. I will probably give her three eggs I have (all belong to Ellie) IF she's in the nest tomorrow. If she snaps out of it, I'll be happy, though.

My barred cochin hen continued to lay eggs the first couple days she sat. I pulled them out because I wanted her to sit on the olive eggs instead. I think that is why they hatched a day or so late. Mine usually hatch a day early and did not start hatching until day 21. I don't think she sat tight the first couple days when she was still laying eggs while sitting.

So a hen laying an egg effects her abilities to hatch? I didn't know that. Because the egg is using more body heat than the hen?

Thanks yall for the compliments on the calf!!!

Amy, that is indeed a bull calf. I'm hoping I can convince the owner of the herd to keep him for future herd sire, as we need to replace the 2 Charolais bulls we now have, in the next couple years.

He's a sweetie! I got to love and scratch on him some, under Mamas watchful eye, while shooing her and him outta the goats temporary stall, so the goats could get snuggled up inside for the night! He just layed there while I scratched on him and wasn't terribly bothered when I picked him up and helped him wobble out the door. Mama wasn't thrilled tho, and she snorted at me a few times

Ha, Cyn, Nugget heard about that playpen in the nice warm kitchen- she figures you will have mercy on her and any potential little ones and take them inside!

Nicole, that is a beauty of a calf- makes me want to get some again!

Interesting thing.....I accidently kicked a box stepping back and that rooster on the right did a predator call and stood at guard. Wow.

He is the single chick that was originally with my white leghornX broody. He should be a great flock rooster for someone some day. I think he might be a Jersey Giant/Cochin cross considering his size and the fact that I am pretty sure there were some JG eggs in that batch.

And the RIR/Cochin hen with her kids
