Sheesh Nella! And here I am fretting about taking care of 22 adults and 2 juveniles!

I guess I don't have it so bad after all.

I'm proud of ya girl! You're getting those numbers down to something more manageable!
thumbsup.gif
And you too Miss Kathy! Keep it up and you'll have a lean, mean egg laying machine there in no time!

Well Crap on toast! I was just about ready to head out to the base when Denny says to me that I ain't going anywhere any time soon. Seems that the dear sweet soul [heavy sarcasm] who runs the county road grader came by around 7:00 this morning and ploughed us in! As in a two foot tall mound of snow and ice! And until Denny clears it, which I think he's down there doing so right now, I shan't be going anywhere!

I do NOT have time for this!

Pardon me y'all, while I rapidly go insane today!

Out fat cat, Cammy, really is a good ol' cat. I won't let her in the house. She is too hairy and makes a mess with that. She stays in the garage if it is cold outside. Brittney has had her for 6 years. 1 dog, 1 cat .... that's enough of the 4 legged pets for me.

6 out of 9 is great, Brandon, and you may even still get more! I woke up this morning to a bator full of chirping chickies, too. I think 30, if I counted correctly.

What's even better is that once I hit 51.....

1 Gold laced cochin hen needs to be culled
1 Splash andalusian hen for sale
1 RIR hen for sale
1 mille fleur cochin rooster for sale (freee)
3 Blue Brahma project girls for sale
2 big splash cochin hens for sale
1 blue cochin hen for sale
1 blue cochin rooster for sale
2 bantam cochin roosters for sale (freee)
1 mottled cochin pair for sale (2)
1 silkie/ee rooster for sale (freee)

That's another 16. What would that be.....35? Add my 12 keeper chicks in and that makes 47. Just under my total of 50 that I am aiming for. If I can get my mottled pair sold and glc culled....mille fleur cochin will move to the tractor and the three free boys will go to the rooster pen. They will leave with all the extra boy chicks in a month or two if all else fails.

Oh, yes, Nugget is really in her element now. She loves, loves, loves having new babies! That's one reason I didn't try to break her up when she went broody at the beginning of the month. She's the best mama, she really is. The contentment on her face really shows when she's watching them run around and eat.

Come on. Admit it! You love that little fur ball!!!! At the very least, you have to respect her. Any cat that can survive that long is worthy of at least respect!

Nick, keep looking sweetie! You can do far better than that as well! Think in terms of building from scratch. Have you paid a visit to the incubator designs page yet? There are some awesome set ups there! And I'm pretty darn certain that you can find one that you too can build for yourself. And we're talking pennies on the dollar compared to the route you're contemplating.

Keep looking sweetheart!

Kathy, I so wish you had a better rapport with kitties. Your little Cammy is absolutely beautiful!!! I love Calico Cats! Can't make up your mind what color of cat you want? Get a Calico! You get all of the colors!

She really is a pretty little thing. Why do you say she is fat? She doesn't look fat to me. Just very fluffy! Aw geesh! Does this mean we have to go through that whole Fat vs. Fluffy thing again?!?!?

Nella, your story of Norman crawling in under the covers with you makes me almost believe in reincarnation! Gracie has been gone long enough you know. Maybe this time she thought she'd try life from a male point of view?
lol.png
Maybe Norman has a wee bit of Norma lurking in him there somewhere?

OK, I gotta run y'all. The snow finally stopped sometime around 2:00 this morning and I must get to the base. Right after I take care of chickens. And OMG! IT IS COLD OUT THERE!!!

Take care and I'll catch up with y'all later this evening. Have a great day folks.

I do like broodies when the time is right. I've got an EE on eggs and I think a friz that is going. She can't til I change the hay in the nest boxes. I don't understand why the newbies go broody when the older girls who have before don't go a second time.

Brand, yes 6/9 is very good.

Kath how many did you do?

I've got a row missing in my turner. Started out with 35, had to toss three so 32 and ended with 23/32. I confess to helping a couple and of the ones that didn't make it tossed two that weren't doing so well. This was on day 23. The dels didn't do so good but I figure it's the line as the hens are at least two maybe older as is Nick. I will be hanging on to all pullets if I can.
The EE's (from two new layers did the best) The bantam leghorns weren't good at all.

So I think I may have more chicks than adults. Yep 40 chicks from 3 hatches. I didn't do the first 6 though Trylin did those as I was going to go to AL but didn't. Help me Jesus!

So I really wanted to ask. Does anyone use Cod liver oil for their chickens? I've read about it in PP mag and thought I try it. I just mixed three tablespoon in the scratch. I don't think it's an everyday thing. The mag author never said how much and how often. I hate when they do that I'd like to kick them in the shins.

Take care
