LH, yes, I did that! And now I wish I hadn't. It's too much of a cheater in my ability to identify each at a glance!
How many times have I reached into the brooder? Pffff! What? In terms of per minute or per hour?
Too many to count! They're just so cute! So far, Amelia is possibly the funniest to watch when she wants to take a nap. She fights it, but will finally stretch her neck all the way out, drop her head to the floor, legs spread eagle out behind her fluffy little butt, and then she's out like a light. Little pill has nearly given me five heart attacks in the first two hours alone, thinking she had died!
She's a real pro at the "dead chick" look!
Thanks Luanne. I had heard good things about Privette too. When I heard that they are where Mary was getting her chicks from, I dropped a bug in her ear about the Del's. Oh boy! I talked up the Del's that day!!
So, now I have my little trio that I always wanted to start with in Del's. Of course I'll keep y'all updated on their progress. I'll probably make ya want to run screaming from the place, I'll be updating so often!!
Cyn, I'm glad I could bring a smile to the start of your day dear lady!
That's what friends are for after all. To help each other over the rough spots in any way we can.
Nick, it's not too late. I think Privette is still taking orders for Del's.
Moms have great day. I am in theater with my 3d glasses waiting for Thor to start..cheyenne and her boyfriend Eli took me...I of.course had to drive. LOL. I will let you know I'd it a good movie or not. Later all.
Emily has no concept of 21 days. She quit...again.
She will not be allowed to have eggs a 3rd time, mark my words! I will give June's egg to Nugget, remove the three Nuggs has which are probably not fertile and Nugget will have a baby a week earlier than normal. At least, I'll have one broody to deal with, not two. Derrick is coming tomorrow to get about 1/3 of the chicks so my feed bill will be slightly lower and he will have some gorgeous youngsters to grow out and choose from.
My mother is taking a long relaxing "Sunday nap". So, I built my first ever thing! All on my own. I have never built anything before, so am making these grow out coops, or broody coops, temporary coops, chick play pens, whatever. So excited! I should be done in a few days, after I run to Home Depot.
I plan to have half covered in tin, and have hardware cloth the bottom foot. No cloth underground, as these will be moved often.galvanized poultry netting used. Still have a lot of framing, sawing, securing and wood stapling to do.

I am enjoying making it, thanks! The post in the back right corner is only temporary, will be replaced with a 2 x 4. My goal is to get all new chicken stuff done this Summer. Hatch the new flock, get the coops and runs done. It will be hot and I'll have more time. Then, I plan to re-do my bedroom. Then must save for the important things.
Well, I think that I will have to wait until Wednesday to keep building... Maybe Thursday. Can't go to Home Depot until then, unless I can have someone else go for me (which I would prefer not do).
I am going to replace two of the posts that are too small with 30 inch 2 x 4's, and actually buy another 4 of them for the rest of the posts.
Pick up some concrete paver blocks while you're at it Nick. I noticed that you're not using pressure treated wood there. Placing non-treated lumber directly on dirt, especially in your area, is an open invitation to termites. Without taking specific steps now, all of your hard work will be for naught, as the termites will destroy it in the course of a single year.
So, pick up some concrete pavers [the 8" x 18" type should work best for your purposes] and a bit of tar paper while you're at it. Might want to stop off at the library as well and pick up a book on basic carpentry practices. As my Daddy always said, if you're going to build something, build it right, and build it to last, even if you consider it to be a temporary structure. That way you're not pouring good money after bad!
I can think of few things that get more expensive than re-work. If you have to repair or re-work anything, that usually means that you've paid for it twice over. And I don't know about you, but I really dislike paying for something twice!
Good luck and post pics as you go. You never know when one of us might have a good nickel's worth of free advice that could save you a lot of money, time and headache.
