DACHSHUNDS!!!!!!
love.gif
I'm not into little dogs, but that's one of the few breeds of small dog that Denny and I have ever put on our extremely short list of maybe someday!! Love your story on both of them Knox. You should be proud! Your little guy looks like he could get up to a great deal of mischief too!

Cyn, your sweet Kess reminds Denny and I both so much of our old boy Sandy. He lived to be 13 & 1/2. He was pedigree, but that didn't stop him from being a big old silly dog.

I don't think he ever understood that, as a pedigree dog, from champion stock, he should have conducted himself with a bit more reserve and dignity. Nope...he was just as silly and funny as the day was long! He's been gone eleven years now. I still miss him. He was a great dog.

I love that picture of Kess looking down at your little girl. Is that Fern by any chance? Cute picture!

Cyn, nice pic and beautiful dog. I just don't have the heart to get another after losing Bertha our rottie.

Well of course they're all nice but I'm partial to big dogs and chickens. Strange though I have no JG's. Well not yet anyhow.

We can't afford to have another dog, not in this economy, but if we did, I'd want a working dog, maybe a Maremma or cross with that breed in it. We have a covered wraparound porch and she could have a blanket on that on winter nights to oversee the place and I'd have a dog to protect my chickens from all our resident wildlife, roaming dogs and even neighbors themselves. No more oversized (or tiny) lap dogs in the house. I'm over the hair. And Kes's old age is "juicy" with drool and pee drips and musty/musky smells that I don't want in the house again. Her old age has been quite smelly, to tell the truth, poor thing.

aaawwww what beautiful fur babies. I love the dachshund and of course Kes my couch buddy.

Last year when I visited Cyn, Kes looked at me so confused and heartbroken when I sat on "her" bed and she just laid there and looked at me like "Why are you on my bed where will I sleep?" So I let her lay on the couch with me, head in my lap and watch TV will she got petted. She forgave me for being in her bed. hehehehehe

She is such a love.

If this is Ghetto, then I sure would like to see the "Uptown" coop!

Most of it is made from my junk pile. I have lots of 17 foot corrugated tin, but my pile is dwindling. I did purchase a dozen 2x4s though. The paint is that red oil base gloss on the plywood floor. I got it for 75% off a few weeks ago. I knew it would come in handy some time.

Anyway, I got it done enough to move the rooster grow outs in. Most will be butchered soon. I found an egg in one of the grow out pens. I suspect it is from one of the Delaware pullets, or possibly one of the New Hampshire girls. I know have them penned with nests. I really waited about too long. I didn't have time to paint the raw wood. Just made it in time to move the boys in before the downpour began. Paint will have to wait. I have used a lot of it. My coops are all under huge trees, mostly sycamore trees, so they are fully shaded, and I feel ok with using tin there. If it were in the sun, they would surely bake in there. I am still gonna put a hardware cloth window on the door though.

Cyn - I understand the dog and old age thing. DD's cat peed in the babies legos yesterday and on DW's purse. She's about 21 or so and I've just about had it. She gets on the table and I'm ready to have her put down. If they weren't moving in a couple of weeks I'd toss her out in the garage no matter what DD says.

Kathy that's quite a few roos. How do you deal with the crowing, or do you butcher them before they start? Still that is a nice coop just the same. I started putting a run on the new hoop coop, which seems to be pretty warm in the sun. It nearly killed me to do the coop. Jesse came today to clean the coops and runs and finished in 3 hours and I had him help me do some cleaning up and put together the hoops for the run. I have to make a concerted effort to get pics.

One of my Barred EE's was up on the fence today when we were leaving for church. I couldn't stop to deal with her and I did see she had jumped back into they yard but I got a call at church that she hurt her foot or leg. DD put her inside by herself so I'll check her in the morning.

I did a count and figure I'm up to about 50 chickens. Jesus help me. I really think I'm maxed out.

I had a call for Dels again but have no birds to sell. I just hope they're still interested when December comes and I start hatching for next year, Lord willing. I'll have to start building new brooders. More permanent ones in the gym off the garage. I have no desire to keep them in the office again. I'm still not done dusting and cleaning from the last brood.

Take care folks and have good day,

Rancher

Ppfffftt, that is not even half of the roosters I have around here, Tim. I have 3 pens in the back of the breeder barn..... the bachelor's pad. They are my breeders or my "reserve" team of breeders. I have to have at least 2 boys of each breed, or so I think I do anyway.

No, the crowing doesn't bother anyone here ..... WHY? Because the coops are far away from the house. We can't really hear them unless we are outside.

50 is a nice number, Tim. Really, a nice number of chickens to have.
I have ...... I have ..... I have ......

TOO MANY to count. HOWEVER, I will be downsizing to the freezer very very soon.
