I got mine from Luanne and they are personality plus! From the time they were little they have always been sweet and human social. They have always been first in line to greet me from their group of chicks, and they still come runnin' when they see me. I keep telling Luanne about this. I just love these birds! They are great! The dark eggs are a bonus, too!

Do you have a Maran's boy to go with those beautiful Maran's girls, Kathy? If I do any hatching next spring, I'd love to buy some nice really dark eggs from you. I love having Maggie and Cosette's eggs in the basket along with the brown eggs from my other girls. Dark brown Maran's eggs would really enhance that mix, don't you think?

I agree with you, Amy! YES, that would be great!

Yes, I did keep 2 Marans boys. One is blue copper and one is black copper. The black copper is the only male in the layers coop. Well, until I moved the Silkies in there a couple days ago.

Luanne (cpartist) is the one with the fabulous Marans. She is a stickler with her breeding and does a FABULOUS job! I am soooooooo happy with mine!

ETA: Meaning, I have no plans to pen the Marans and hatch from them. However, I feel pretty safe that IF I hatch some of their eggs they will be pure, since the Marans boy is the only one in the layers coop. I doubt that Silver will mate the Marans, but it is always a possibility. Check with Luanne for eggs or chicks. She ships!

Are Luannes the exception to the rule ? Or am i wrong in thinking they arent the nicest . Course the article i read was a british magazine -perhaps their bloodlines can be a bit cranky? No offense any british person reading this!

Took LH's little Orpies outside in their laundry basket playpen today. I also snapped pics of the wing feathers of the two I think are pullets, the blue and one of the blacks, for input. Check out Zeus and his playmates.

LH, except for being a tad lighter, the blue one has "spectacles" around her eyes, just like Velvet did years ago. She looks like Velvet.

First, the playpen--we were sitting right beside it, just so no one thinks we put them in there and walked off anywhere.

A playpen! What a great idea. I have a batch of chickies about 2 weeks old (what was I thinking??). I just hatched a bunch of blue eggs from my free range pen; Amerauana and EE girls running with Ameraucanas and Marans, and they are already plotting their escape. I need to fix up something like that.
