Well poo. There aren't a lot of "feathers" on those shanks but they sure as heck are there! I got a wellie cross chick from Amy aka HappyMtn recently......looked like a Wellie but had very lightly feathered shanks. She was making olive eggers with her wellies so it was all fine and dandy....but now that I think of it, I don't know if it has feathered shanks anymore. It should be a few months old now, but I'll have to hunt it down and see. It's out in the yard somewhere......

Either way, I would definitely require an explanation for THAT one. Big $$ for those eggs, I'm sure.........they better darn well be what they are supposed to be. But feathered shanks on the chicks? Yeah, maybe not.

Beware if the seller asks you to "wait and see" how they turn out or claims the feathering will disappear as they get older. Paypal may have a time limit on these things. i had an ebay seller do that to me once, many years ago......not chicken related....he kept telling me that the item was in storage, he had to go get it, etc etc. i bought a group of things from him and got a few early on so kept waiting for him to send the rest. Next thing I know he disappeared and it was long enough I couldn't track anything down.

they are cute even though they do have the leg fuzz:hit. The wormer discussion was on Sdwd. Gloria Jean

My immediate response was anger and disappointment. I do understand that mistakes occur. This girl (Andrea) has been very nice with our transaction. She even mailed the second batch of eggs, "Express Mail," on her own money, so I would get them faster. She is not quick to respond to emails, maybe only once a week. I emailed her and told her I need to hear from her within 48 hours.

Still .... There is no way that these are Coronation Sussex chicks. No way! I hope we can resolve the problem quickly and with satisfaction. Darn it! Hmmmmm, I wonder what these chicks are anyway.

I bought 3 sets of 6 eggs each (18), and only 5 ever developed, and only these 2 hatched.

Kathy, yes that was it, thank you! I don't know why it didn't come up when I googled it!

As to the chicks- how far did she have to ship them? That seems a really low rate. I would go ahead and contact Paypal and start the process, you can always drop it, can't you? Do you have anything contact besides email? Did she not have to list an address or number on the shipment? Can you track her down that way?

Oh yes, that is what they look like!

I got a reply from her .... here it is ...

This is her website: http://narrowgatepoultry.com/

I am sorry to hear that you only have two chicks. As you know, I do not guaratee any hatch, the same as any other breeder. There are too many variables outside of my control. I personally have purchased shipped eggs from another seller in the past and had a 0% hatch rate. That is just the risk. I am hatching chicks from my eggs and other customers are also.

As far as the feathered shanks, I would like to see some pictures. None of my chicks have them, so I'm not sure what to tell you. I know you paid a lot of money for these eggs, and I want you to be satisfied. So send over some pics and I'll take a look.

What exactly? Prove that you're not lying about the leg feathers? Good grief!

If it were me, Kathy, I think I'd let her know just how many friends you have here at BYC, and that those friends have a lot of other friends on BYC, and so on and so on, until she gets the bigger picture of just who she's dealing with.

Word of mouth can be the most positive or negative advertising in the world. Like Cynthia said, it all depends on how the seller handles a complaint. If she makes restitution for the price of the eggs, then you're only out the time you had devoted to incubating them. Sure, there's the disappointment of it all, but it's kind of hard to put a price on that. But to be out the money AND the time both, well, that's just adding insult to injury.

I don't think I'd want any more eggs from this woman. I've seen eggs get shipped from one side of this country to the other with success rates as high as 85%. If you know HOW to pack eggs properly, and the eggs are fresh, then it can be done. If the eggs have been sitting around for 2 weeks and haven't been properly cared for, then yeah, your hatch rate is gonna suck! Considering that she couldn't get it right the first time, I don't think I'd want to risk a second time. Just get your money back if you can. Good luck Kathy. Keep us posted on how she treats you. Because how she treats you is important to the rest of us who might have entertained the notion of adding CS to our flocks!
