I think Speckledhen bred her male Delaware to a Amerucana female and got some Delawegger.

If I was sure this would work I could get rid of my Lav Amer roo and just get some hens to stick in with my Dels. I really just want colored eggs, don't care what shades.

I've been crossing him with my two ee's one of which I'm pretty sure has lav in her. The four most recent laying hens lay green or blue but are all black. Some of the chicks I lost where lav or blue.

I'm getting ready to set more eggs.

Where is Kathy, I need some BR eggs. MY roo is not doing his deed and they eggs are not fertile. I don't know what to do.

Tim, is it still icy cold up there in NY? Perhaps he may have mites or lice? I have noticed way down here in Nevada that the lice this year are horrible. I'm having to keep checking over and over for infestations. Those nasty things definitely affect fertility. Once I start getting a bit more sunshine, it affects fertility also.

It was 61 today. The BR coop is the warmest I have. I will check for mites though. He sleeps on the floor with one or two girls. You would think at least they would be laying fertile eggs.

OK but did they lay colored eggs and any particular color ?

PS Baby dels doing great - growing fast
mine generally lay like most Olive eggers some lay an egg with a bluer hue but for the most part they will lay OEs
Cool

Tim, it's a bit of a crap shoot as not all EE's carry the blue egg gene. This is why I want to start with a BWA over Del girls. I have five girls that, to all outward appearances, would qualify as Easter Eggers. Each has the muffs and beards, each has the pea comb, the slate colored legs, etc, etc, etc,. But only three lay the bluish eggs: Mother Maggie, and daughters Cosette and Cleo. Esther and Sonic, who also had EE mothers, lay brown eggs. Perhaps this illustrates the whys and wherefores for my wanting to start this off with the more predictable outcomes of pure blood lines, as it is the BWA rooster who carries the more dominant blue egg gene.

To be sure, there will be offspring that will fail to inherit the blue egg gene. Those would be culls. And I still have a great deal to learn about genetics overall, before I embark on this odyssey. But, considering how much I get a giggle out of having little fuzzy butts around, it should be tons of fun all the way along!

I should add that, having said all of that about the BWA rooster versus a Del boy, I do have a rather handsome Del boy that I would like to try over Maggie and her daughters, just to see what I would get. As I said before, I don't fully understand [not even close] the genetics at work here, but, practice makes perfect, right?!?

As far as the color/pattern goes this cross would yield Delaware patterned chicks male and female the opposite cross would yield sexlinks as this is a gold over silver cross so only the females will look Del patterned the males would be somewhat of a wheaten/BBR (wildtype/chipmunk striped) pattern.
