It is lots of work, yes. We can do it, but it takes us a cord and a half to heat all winter, if I recall. My house is only about 1100 sf and half of it is completely open so it's easy to heat with the wood stove. That's cool about that lady. We do have plenty of fallen and standing dead oak, maple and sourwood, so we'll just add to this first cord as we have time and energy.

Oh my gosh. I must have my dates wrong .... must be ....

I hear chirping. The little Dels (I thought) are not due until the 17th. (Well, I guess it will be the 16th in a couple hours). Hmmmm, maybe I will have babies here tomorrow.

AND, my broody little black Silkie should be due within a few days, too (I think). I moved her into the garage today. It is raining like crazy here .... thunderstorms and lightening and downpours off and on.

I should have a couple Coronations and 9 "splits," in the mail tomorrow. I believe they are a few weeks old. At least I have a start (on a little flock of Coronations).

Oh Kathy! I'm so going to pray and keep my fingers crossed that they arrive alive, healthy and beautiful. You've already gone through so much to get these chicks. I sure hope you'll be happy with them. They came at such a high price!

Just offloaded the cord of wood we went and picked up yesterday. Found another Theresa Russell and a couple of her babies and killed those. Hope we got all the black widows out of there. Ankle and shoulders are screaming!

Just went to let the Barred rocks and Columbian rocks out and heard a strange sound! It was "peeping"!!! Sugar has at least 2 babies hatched already!!! I thought they were not due until Sunday but I guess I missed a couple days somehow

They are still under her so I don't know what's hatched yet....hopefully Dels since they seem to be the early arrivers

Hope y'all are having a good day

Cyn - ibuprofen, a glass of wine....repeat every 4 hours!! or as needed

Like Scott .... I did not think these were due until later (tomorrow). BUT, I do have one early bird Delaware hatched out. Another big pip is totally all bloody .... I have heard of that, but never experienced it myself. I hope it makes it, as it is the biggest egg, and I was wanting to see how big the chick would be. These Delawares are being hatched for BYCer Har, from Arkansas.

I must be following right behind Kathy....definitely 1 Delaware chick hatched. Was just putting chick feed and water into the brooder pen and s/he popped out from under mama. So far, no others yet....but she's on 13 eggs, so here's hoping more will be here later

When Harriet hatched my four, they were a day earlier than I expected, too- they were all four peeking at me early on Saturday morning- maybe it's a year for early Dels and half Dels?
Kathy, I hope the bloody spot chick makes it OK - I have no idea what to do.
