No, not a breed cross. They are both "Sussex." The only difference is the black color or the Lavender color. It is often done .... creating a "split." When bred together (two splits), you will get 50% of the Light Sussex (black) and 50% of the Coronation Sussex (Lavender). If you breed a Coronation Sussex over the Splits (the splits have 1 copy of Lavender and 1 copy of the black), you will also get both .... but more of the Coronations.

Kathy, I am so sorry you have gone through this crapola over the coronations....I would send that breeder an email advising her the condition of the chicks, show the pictures and thank her for yet another cross when more than a reasonable amount has been paid for Purebred Coronations. Advise her that you are going to tell this story with the pictures on Backyardchickens.com with HER NAME so that no one else falls victim to her lack of knowledge, over pricing and bad business practices.

Then do it! Make a thread about the coronations...what you paid, what you got and post the pics...warn every other BYC member about buying eggs and chicks from this person. She is taking a high price and delivering trash!

I got my first porcelain d'uccle egg yesterday from one of Spike's girls. I even marked it and put it in a carton so when I get 4 or 5 I can ship them to speckledhen. The Princess needs a little man of her own aka shadow the bantam cochin terrorist.

Now, we have to be careful here. Though it may seem a good thing to do, it's against BYC rules to call a specific person out on the board. Best to keep it to PM's if someone wants to know who you're talking about.

Okay Cyn but is it against BYC rules to lay out the story with the suggestion that before you buy coronations eggs or chicks that you PM first to make sure it is not the same breeder?

There has to be a way to let BYCers know there is a coronation seller/breeder/moron STIFFING buyers

Well Cyn? Come on help us out here....what can Kathy do to warn BYC

Tell me or I send every d'uccle egg these two girls lay for the next year

You would think. I mean people have posted tons about sick chicks & dying chicks coming from McMurray when they had their water issue, chicks shipped from somewhere and sent to the wrong address, bxes of dead chicks arriving etc etc....why not discuss hatchery/breeders that stiff you.

If you cannot openly discuss it, with facts, how are others going to know and not get shafted too?
