Morning!

Beth, I am so saddened for your DH...but he will be able to see Joleta on the 11th when you come through here and that will him feel better.

Thank you for asking...my upper left is still sore but not too badly. I get 4 on the upper right pulled Tueday

Janelle I am sorry about your girl...but do listen to speckledhen she has good advise on this bumblefoot stuff. I hope your girl gets better.

Gaaaah!

I just realized I missed nearly everything that transpired here yesterday! Sorry gang. I'm running around [if you'll forgive the terminology] like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off, trying to tie up all of my loose ends before hunting season starts. As of this coming Saturday, I will be by and large unavailable for the duration of the season, or until I get my buck. Here's hoping that is TOMORROW!!

Beth, I'm so sorry about Zeke.
sad.png
I sure hope there is something that can be done for him. How old is he? They have made increadible advancements in fighting cancers in dogs and cats these days. But if Zeke is very old, it may be best to just let him go mercifully and quietly. But, eternal optimist that I am, I'll surely keep Zeke, you and DH in my prayers for a more favorable determination of the biopsy!

OK, an update on Evie! I unwrapped and examined my handiwork of the other evening last night. This is what I saw:

The bottom of her foot is a nice lovely flesh toned white, and still just as clean as the night I wrapped it up. The "blister" that was on the top between two toes looks pretty good and has the remnants of the triple antibiotic ointment that I had pumped into her foot still oozing out just a bit. There was a bit of residual in the incision site on the bottom of her foot as well. All in all, I thought it looked pretty good, other than the fact that the foot is still swollen. The underside feels rather hard to me. On the plus side, temperature wise, the bad foot feels to be the same as her good foot, unlike the other day when I removed the bumble. Then it was definitely feverish to the touch.

I am concerned about the fact that the size of her foot has not diminished much, if at all, since the surgery. Is this normal? How long should it take before I see a significant improvement on that issue?

Janelle mentioned earlier that she had a LOT of blood to deal with on her little girl when she removed the bumble from her foot. I didn't have that issue and I'm wondering if that has any bearing on the outcome. I had to squeeze like Billy Blue Blazes to get Evie's foot to bleed when I went digging around in there. The majority of it came when I lanced the top "blister" area and had done a lot of pinching and squeezing to get the lump of infection out of that end.

I will add only that I wish somebody had told me just how darn hard that blue wrap stuff is to get off once you've wrapped them up!
lol.png
Great Garden O' Peas! as Tim would say! I swear it took me twice as long to get that all off of her last night as it did to wrap it up in the first place. But, she has new dressings and wraps on now, and rested comfortably in the pump house all night long. She's such a little sweetheart!
love.gif
Which reminds me....How long do I need to keep her foot wrapped?

OK, gotta wrap this one up for now [pardon the pun! ] and get the whole gang started in on their day. I may be dragging my butt around at such an early hour, but the chickens are loving it!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Morning all....I'm in the same boat as Serrin. Packing the truck as we speak. Rifle season begins tomorrow morning and the boys are out of school Monday.....look out deer, here we come!!!

My boys are soooo excited they can hardly wait. I think most of you know they have been hunting with me since they were 4, carrying a rifle since the age of 6 and both killed their first deer at 7. With Landon at 15 and Colby at 11 now...they have finally stopped counting.

I am taking them out of school early today

Maxie is fading. She is standing with her wings hanging down, eyes closed. She will cock her head slightly if she hears something, but did not eat today at all. She won't last, but darn it, I'm going to open her up when she passes and see what the heck is in her abdomen. It almost feels like one of her huge eggs perforated the oviduct and was dumped into the cavity. It's like concrete from vent all the way under.

Good luck to yall huntin!!! We're sittin this openin weekend out, my license is expired and DH hasta work

and the kids won't go hunting with me anyways

Cynthia - so sorry to hear that, poor Maxie

Cyn, Sorry to hear about Maxie. I hope she isn't suffering. Poor thing. How is it that all this reproductive stuff happens anyway? Is it genetics, or is there some other cause that you know of?

Beth, I really am trying to downsize! You know .... 10 out, 5 in.
tongue.png
Actually, I am now down to 150. It is getting harder now. I don't think I can go much more. My goal is to have all Heritage breeds, EXCEPT for 2 pens of eye candy for me. I still have the Icelandic to go though. I really need that pen. If no one speaks up for them in the next week or so, I (as bad as I hate to) am gonna have to take them to the auction.

I now have a garage rooster (not a house dog or a house chicken). He goes in his kennel each night, just as a dog would do.
lol.png
I brought him in about a week or so ago. He was being picked on by others, and I worried he was not eating enough, cuz he was hiding. Well, he is quite happy to be away from the harrassers. Today he belted out his first crow, funny as it was. I have him set up in one of those super large sized wire portable pens (like you have cetawin). He comes out each morning, and I let him outside .... he goes to the front yard where there are no other chickens around. I had taken him out there a few times before. Apparently he likes it, because that is where he goes. He spends his day out there, and returns to his kennel each night. This is him. His name is Leggs. He is about 5 foot tall.
gig.gif
Well, not yet, but he looks like he is gonna be! He came from the one egg I hatched from a Utah breeder (Jersey Giant) in April. I sold all my Jersey Giants (except for 3 growing out pullets) and this one. DH absolutely refuses to let him go. (JGs are Heritage, ya know!)

WOW! He's an awesome boy Kathy!!
droolin.gif
I'm sure he'll mature into a very handsome man!!! Your DH apparently has good taste in roosters!
lol.png
What is his personality like? Is he sweet? Can you handle him? Do you spend much time with him? I sure hope for you and your family's sake that he's a sweetie pie Kathy. He's already big enough to do some serious damage if he were to go on an "Attack the Humans" rampage!
hide.gif
Just imagine what he could do when fully grown!
th.gif
But, and correct me if I'm wrong, aren't JG known for being gentle giants?
hu.gif
I have no idea, having never met one in person you see. I hope you'll post some more pictures of him in a few more months so that we can all see how he is coming along!
