Oy vey, Inkheart I can't believe I forgot that one! D'oh.

I forgot to mention, I think I will keep my little rooster baby that did the predator call yesterday. He hatched out of a 'darkish' brown egg.......which should be my Jersey Giant girl. Judging by the size and feathered legs, I would guess crossed with my big Blue Cochin boys. Possibly the Silver laced boys, but more likely the head honcho blue guy. If I see silver leakage as he gets older, I would say Silver Laced cross. If solid black or some red leakage, Blue cross.

Anywho.........I always wished my Jersey Giant rooster had not gotten so mean because he made such great crosses. With my White Leghorn girls. So I can use this Giant/Cochin cross on either my White Leghorn girls to get similar crosses to my originals (with minor feathering on legs), or I could cross him on the White Leghorn/Giant girls....that would give me half Giant, quarter leghorn, quarter Cochin. Maybe it will put a little more size on my girls for when they go broody. More eggs will fit! ha ha.....

I could run a few batches of these at the same time as crossing my Blue Cochins on my Barred cochin girls. and then compare the resulting offspring. The cochins would be a super broody blend, but my LeghornGiantX have also been super broody..........would be neat to compare them. I'm sure the cochins would lay less, but may be more broody and would still be pure cochin. The LeghornGiantCochinX would probably lay better and may still be awesome broodies.

So many possibilities!

I had also planned on making custom bantam EEs. Crossing black cochin girls over a Splash Ameracauna boy. All chicks would be blue, poofy cheeked, feather legged, and should lay green eggs. I have the black girls, but no rooster....but there is one availble a couple hours away.

Anyone else have any neat projects in the works or rolling around in your brains?

I'm waiting on my Del/Rock crosses to begin laying. i am going to breed them to my Col Rock roo to get what I'm gonna call "Sapphire Rocks".....will be a blue columbian pattern. Similar to the coronation sussex (albeit mine will be blue, not lavender) and I'll be able to offer both "std" columbian and "sapphire" rocks as they will breed blue and black....for some reason though, its not supposed to throw any splash....we'll see.

Can't wait to begin incubating

Ooooh, that does sound neat. I will get pix of my blue rock/dellie girl for you this weekend as requested. I think I may go ahead and toss her to the wolves, er uh, I mean move her out to the big yard along with her 2 bantam cochin pullet friends. Mr weirdo blue mottled/laced/whatever and my loofah cochin will stay in the brooder for now, under heat.

My girl does actually look very similar to yours.....only different being I think her "markings" are a bit more defined. But overall she looks pretty similar.

I wanna make some darker "pink" eggs. I have one Easter Egger that lays a pink egg. I have her in with the Marans. If she would ever resume laying (molt), I want to hatch some of her egg and see if her offspring will lay darker pink. I am sure it will take a few generations to get them darker .... if it works at all.

You should cross her to a blue egger, and make lavender eggs

Hey that sounds really really interesting!

Nope! Just whatever happens if Maggie should go broody this spring or summer. If Brewenna happens to lay an egg around that same time, I might stuff one of hers under Maggie and see if she'll accept it.

I'd love to have an offspring of Brew and Chief. She's getting rather old now. Almost 5. She lays maybe three eggs a week in a good week. But when she was at her peek, Brew laid the most beautiful huge light brown egg every day. The kind that are so big that even in an "extra large" or "jumbo" egg carton, I was hard pressed to get the lid closed without breaking it!

Thank heavens she's always had a super good and thick shell to her eggs!
