what is the temperature without windchill? Yikes.

Its windy and cold here. BRRRRRR. I am making a pizza in the oven right now. Actually collected a full dozen eggs today. Haven't gotten that many in ages. I'm getting some REALLY nice Wheaten Marans eggs. Super dark and rich. And fortunately, my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana boy LOVES them. They are going in a pen this spring to make some super olive eggers. They will all be wheaten or blue wheaten. Neat-o.

Came home to my laptop, keyboard, mouse and laptop table strewn about the living room. From the looks of it, one of the cats knocked it all over. Crazy cats. Norman and Lucy stay loose in the house together now (as of yesterday) 24/7 so they chase each other around a bit.

Speaking of Lucy......haven't updated on her in a while. She is settling right in. She LOVES to lay on the couch snuggled up in the blanket and just sleep the day and night away. I think she spends at least 22 hours a day on the couch snoring.

She is not a lap cat like Norman.

Although she is always purring and happy...if I talk to her she will knead the air/ground/anything.

She and Norman have a love/hate relationship. Norman is twice her size and kind of evil so she has to make him talk to the hand quite often.

Wooo Hooo, GO LUCY ! ! !

It got up to 13* here today. Tonight forecast is -15 with windchill of -40. I hate winter!
Looking forward to Saturday and Sunday, suppose to warm up to 40*.

I counted chicks today. Ummm, I have more than I thought. I knew I shouldn't have counted.

Hmmmm......If I make breeding pens March 1st.....everyone should be pure by last week of March, giving me 1 week to collect eggs for this hatch. HMMMMMMMM.....

I would prefer to do a few BIG hatches all grouped together. I love growing up a few large groups instead of lots of small ones. These 26 weren't quite close enough in age....decent but would have been better off with weekly staggered hatches instead of a few weeks apart.

This gives me all of February to get my breeding pens "built". Okay, that involves only a single 24' long straight fence. But 2 coops. Must get to work.

Great idea, Nella ..... start building!

Honestly, I was hoping to be done hatching by then. But, then again, it seems I am never quite done. Awww heck, this gives me a reason to hatch (like I need an excuse ya know).... I will hatch out all the chicks I am bringing to Ladyhawk's shindig!

The coop for the 8x8 pen will be a super easy build. Just need to get around to it. I'm a slacker (or not).

......maybe this weekend? I have all the materials, just need to get them together.

The other will be hard to do and I'll really need a second set of hands to do the roofing, same as last time I built its "twin".

I don't mind hatching "year round", but as I said before, would prefer to just hatch out a bunch near the same age so I don't have to have a bunch of different "groups".

OMG! Who ever put together those "news articles" is sheer genius! Talk about a gift for writing!

Kathy, I'm so relieved and happy to hear that Mike is home. But I'm sure no where near as happy and relieved as you are, huh? How long before he has to hit the road again? Hopefully not until after all of that snow is gone!

Well, I candled GeeGee's eggs tonight......guess what???.....She's still gonna be a mommy!!!

I can't believe it! After the tussle she had with one of the girls, in which one egg went completely missing, and one was buried in the shavings outside of the nest, and then a couple of days later when she got off the nest early, and her eggs got chilled, I honestly didn't think anything in that nest would be viable.

But, tonight, we have movement in TWO of the eggs!! WOOOOHOOO!!! GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!!

I talked to Denny and told him how worried I am that these eggs are still developing. He promised to help me build one of Nella's double decker brooders tomorrow. I so love that man of mine!

We can easily get that done in just an hour or two at most. We make a great building team ya know!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I'm just so excited! My GeeGee's gonna be a mommy!!! If I had to take a guess, I'd say they're somewhere around day 16 to 18.

It will be my luck that the eggs will start pipping about 2 hours after I get them and mama settled into the brooder! Or at least I certainly hope they'll wait that long!

Nella, love the pics of Lucy and Norman! What a pair to draw too!!

I didn't realize just how much smaller Lucy is than Norman until I saw that picture of the two of them in the hallway. The "Talk to the hand" picture.

Great caption by the way! She's just a little bitty thing, ain't she? What a cutie.

I'm so happy that she landed on all four paws in your home. I know she's living the best life any kitty could ever hope for!

Well, I think I'd better go print off a set of Nella's plans for the brooder so Denny knows exactly what we're doing tomorrow. The sooner we get it done, the better! I shudder to think what might happen if those eggs start to hatch in the coop!
