That's wonderful Nella, so that means you have room for more, right?

Well, if my broody actually hatches any out this weekend, I can just buy a few to add to her bunch. And if she DOESNT hatch any this weekend and I have to toss the eggs, I will buy some babies to sneak under there.

Its win win....right?

Nick, that chick won't look at all like it does now when the smut clears out. It takes ages to know if they will have good color or not. That one looks to have too much color in the hackles--shouldn't have that lacing look to it, but as I've always said, you won't really know till the chick is about 16-18 weeks old what it really will look like as an adult. Georgie herself is too dark in the hackle area with too much lacing, but you never know which parent a chick will take after in coloring.

Here is my coop I still have pens to build inside

I am going to build a a 6 x 10 for the Orps, a 6 x 10 for the layers and a 6 x 10 to fill with 3 x 5 cages for the bantams. Later in the year I will work on a smaller separate coop for the bantams and then their area will house either cochins or maybe Coronation sussex if I get a good hatch from Kathy's eggs in May/June.

The ducks are now getting their own small 4 x 4 coops/houses because they just bring too much moisture inside to house them with my chickens.

Wow, LH, that is very nice! Good luck with the eggs!
Cyn, oh, okay. Thanks.

By the way, please welcome blackfeathers to the forum, I met her at the flower show yesterday. She has four 6 mo old pullets and just started getting eggs- she thinks she wants me to hatch her some. Her partner is also very nice.

Cyn,

I posted over on your other thread, but I'll say it here too. I so hope that all Caroline needs is a bit of quiet time to heal up and be her old self again.

She looks so nearly identical to my Brewenna, it isn't even funny. If Caroline's personality is anything like Brew's, then I can certainly understand the special place in your heart that you have for her. These Golden Brahma's are so sweet! Just gentle giants!

Sorry I haven't posted in so long here in the SDWD. Been rather busy with house building, chickens....Mama GeeGee! Good Grief! That woman is going to drive me to a nervous breakdown with all of her antics! I think she's just about ready to go back to the coop and go back to being just another one of the girls. Oh, Cyn, by the way, I forgot to mention. GeeGee did hatch that second egg last Thursday morning!!

And therein lays part of the problem. I think she's torn between caring for Gooby, who is now just shy of 3 weeks old, and the new chick. As a result of her quandary, she seems to have moments of elevated agitation. She'll storm back and forth in the brooder hutch and not be all that careful or mindful of where the wee one is under foot. And it certainly doesn't help the situation when GeeGee is in this state to have Gooby riding on her mama's back! What a little pratt! But a smart little pratt at that! She seems to know that when mama is on a rampage, the safest place for her to be is up on mama's back. If the little one could learn that trick, I wouldn't worry nearly so much.

I'm just going to watch and wait this coming week and see how things go. If the situation gets any worse, I'll remove mama from the brooder, and maybe pick up two or three chicks from Del's Feed & Farm when they get their first shipment in later this week. At least they'd be closer to the little one's age than Gooby is. Ya wanna know the strange part about all of this? Gooby is the one that is most careful and caring of the little one! Hmmppff! Go figure!

Anyhow, here's a few recent pics of the wee one [no, I still don't have a name for her/him] with Mama and Gooby too. Hope ya like them.

Any thoughts on gender Cyn? I'm thinking her mother may be my BSL Dottie. Dottie was the only one with those cute litte dots both fore and aft of her eyes when she was little. This little chick shares that trait. Do you suppose?

I'm calling her a girl, but ya know, it will probably be just my dumb luck that it's another boy!
