I am glad I don't live there. I am worried we will have another summer like two years ago where the average high temp for July here was 64 degrees.
I hope you find out what is wrong with whatever chicken

Sorry today's communication was rough...There was some junk that had me going to Sarah's, the vet at 9:00am then back to Sarah's about 4:30 and all that after being up all night with the Diva. Long story short, I was just dozing off about 1:00am when hubby and I sat straight up at the sound of hooves on the gravel driveway...I jumped up in time to see Jo running and I mean running down the road. So, out in my robe and slippers I go with hubby behind me...we caught up with her 30 minutes later and she was completely freaked out...rearing up, snorting, wide eyed...I checked her over with a flashlight DH brought and nothing was injured, she was walking okay and prancing alot. I spent over an hour and a half calming her. We get her back to the house and turn towards the barn and she rears up and tries to bolt but I had her head turned into me and down. So, husband eased her closer to the barn and I went in with the flashlight and looked around and there were large cat prints in front of her stall, which was still locked and can only mean she jumped that five foot gate from pretty much a standing position. There were heavy hoof prints which tell me she reared at whatever it was before she saw the chance to run out of the barn. So husband told me to "kill, chase and yell at whatever was in the barn", so I made a complete fool out of myself by yelling and screaming at every stall area of the barn, throwing things and chasing invisible creatures away...but Jo needed that, she walked very calmly with her head up right back into her stall cause the lady who loves her took care of the threat. So...it was 4:30 before I laid down again and I spent the day running in a fog. Vet came and checked her out about 2pm and gave her a clean bill of health. Vet thinks it is a large bobcat, as do Sarah and I, it probably came through the barn smelling chickens because they hang out there during the day messing up my straw bales...it probably just scared Jo...doubtful it would try to attack a grown horse..a calf or a goat sure but not 900 - 1000 lbs of ticked off hooves. So tonight, it is me and the rifle sitting in the diningroom...one whiny, snort or yell from Jo and something gets shot then I am free to
until time to go Sarah's at 6:30am. Sooooo without going too far from home today I spent $200 on vets hubby is sooooooooo pleased. LOL
Oh my LH! That is CRAZY! So glad that you were able to get her! Of course now you are on edge i am sure - well being guard. That is nuts - she must have been terrified! I hope you get some rest and well Jo too! Were the chickens all in one piece too?
Chickens were fine Knox...the only way anything is getting in is by using a key on the door locks, ripping off a door or breaking a window...I have a 10' x 20' Amish made shed/barn.
She seems to be fine and her normal self this morning, wanting her breakfast, pats and hugs. Nothing came through last night and I raked the asle in front of her stall...no tracks today so, hopefully whatever it was has passed on through and kept going but I will still be looking for it.
Nella drive carefully today weather is crappy up here...look out for hail mid-morning.
