I took some one-week old Orp chicks from my Orp/Brahma cross hen, Glenda, once, after people said she'd get over it quick. O.M.G. she looked for them for months! It was pitiful! I swore I'd never do it again. Next time, I let her keep them till she didn't want them anymore. She mourned them for so long, it broke my heart.

Nearly all my wheaties are broody. They scream like Im killing them when I walk into the coop. Good thing my neighbors are far away. Ive resorted to taking them and putting them in my breeder pens, which have no nesting boxes. In about a week they will be back to normal, and Ill put them back in the coop. They are in there with 2 black rocks and 3 blue rocks. What a bunch of hormonal women.

Cpartist, your babies are growing out beautifully here. I think I hatched a bunch of roos, as usual. Ill grow them out and see if I can get a nice wheaten boy out of the bunch.

Lisa,
I am removing the nests and all the bedding. These broodies will have only cement floor and dirt outside the pop door. My helpers are working on it right now. I so hope this will work. I am going to dunk them in a pail of water before releasing them in this pen. I will have a pen of "wet hens!"

LMAO may the force be with you Kathy. hehehehehe I find it easier to look them in the eye and say "Good Girl, I want a big blue handsome rooster" and they run off the nest, never to return. But whatever works for you.

What happened with your orp hen kathy?

My little mottled hen actually ate some scratch earlier! not much, but at least she is showing interest......Still going to syringe feed her the nutri drench and water every night. This heat is killer......

Well, actually, she looked a tad bit better this morning. There is a local 4H boy that comes out every so often and gets chicks. He came out today. When I said I was gonna cull her, he and his mom asked if they could have her. SOOOOOOOO, she has been rehomed. Light as a feather and so very pale.

They also took a broody Silkie with a bunch of eggs, too!
