My next hatches are due Sept 12 and Sept 17. The F1s are great layers. Yesterday I got 10 eggs from 10 girls!

LH, I'm so sorry that nutty chicken has made you lose another nights sleep. I have to leave for the Dr at 8:30 and should be back maybe around 10 a.m. or so, I'm hoping. Depends since Tom has labs as well. Stupid DeDe!

For all of you with BRs from Kathy (or Jeremy), I am in need of a cockerel. Lost my last one to a hawk a week or so back so all I have are 2 pullets....nobody to be the daddy. Before you get rid of any (if you're somewhat close to me) let me know, thanks

Weird loss here this AM too. One of my "next group" of CRs was 2 pullets and 2 cockerels. About 18 weeks old. Woke up this morning to find one of the cockerels dead in the pen. No blood, no trauma, no nothing. He was out "fighting it out" with his hatchmate brother til bedtime last night, so as of 830pm yesterday he was fine. REALLY weird. Beginning to wonder if this extended period of heat and no rain (not a drop for 4 weeks now) is causing me an issue

Y'all have a great day....off to work on a HUGE project for next year. Its a new hospital in San Antonio that could be about a $2.5 million sale for me. Sure would make my year next year!!!!

Unfortunately, 'coons like areas where there is water and I am sure that your pond is a big "draw" for them. Don't know if its been unusually dry there like it has been here, if so, that could be the reason

Coon hunters here typically target areas with creeks/swamps to chase those "masked bandits"

Hopefully you have cleaned out a majority of them!!

Yes, it has been terribly dry here.

I know there is another predator, or something, getting into one of my other pens, too. The last 3 nights I have seen evidence of it, but am sure it is not a coon because the water is left untouched. The coons always dirty the water. I am gonna set a trap in that pen tonight and see if I get anything.

Yesterday, cleaning up my junk pile, we found a copperhead! Killed it and laid it out on a log. This morning it was gone!​
