We had a pine needle event of epic proportions here today. Not to mention a day darkening dust storm. You'd swear we had stepped back in time to the Great Dust Bowl of the Depression Era!

It just came rolling in around noon today and before we knew it, it looked like about an hour before sunset. I guess we can finally kiss summer goodbye here. I'm pretty sure that storm heralded the end of it around these parts at least.

So, guess what's on our agenda for tomorrow?.....yup....pine needle clean up.

I hate that crap! **sigh**

Ok now i know most of you would think this was no big deal and YES it still needs paitning - but for me Mr No Fix it without hiring someone - this is a big deal -so be kind! LOL It is like " Fort Knox " secure and the lil roosts i even built

Actually that looks fine to me. Mine needs trim paint too. It is not cute by no standards but it works and is safe for my flock. They like it. That is all that matters. gloria jean

Gloria Jean, I'm glad you have birds again. Your namesake is laying cute little brown eggs now. Waiting for them to get large enough for a chick to grow in, but she's so beautiful, the eggs are just a bonus.

Knox, I love your set up! It's absolutely darling! Can I make one little suggestion though? Good! I knew I could!

That cute little firehouse bell you have mounted on the end of their coop......you need to run a rope from that and suspend it to just within reach in their yard. That way, when they want you to come out and pay attention to them, all they have to do is start ringing the bell. Believe me. Those girls of yours are smart little cookies! They'll figure it out in no time!

Gloria Jean, your flock is looking stunning! Is that a NH rooster I see on the right hand side of the picture? Beautiful colors! I too, am glad that you have a flock once again. May you always have feathered friends about you, dear lady.

I'll have to get some pictures of the MOUNTAINS of pine needles we have already raked up into piles. It's too dry out here to burn right now. If this keeps up, I have NO idea of where we're going to dispose of all of these crazy things. Due to the biology of Ponderosa Pine trees, it gets bad like this about every four years. I sure hope this means that next year will be much better, but I don't hold out much hope for that. We've had a huge outbreak of Pine Butterflies this year. That can only spell bad news for many of our older trees next year and not a dang thing we can do about it.

On a brighter note, we picked up the last third of decking that we needed for the East side porch yesterday! Now, just as soon as we finish cleaning up pine needles, we can get to work on finishing THAT deck!

Hey! Has anyone heard from LadyHawk? Cyn? How about you? What news from our dear LH? I'm worried about that girl! It's not like her to go so long without touching bases with us!
