Oh, WOW, Bully looks great, too! I love his shape!

Bully might look even nicer in the freezer. Looks like a nice breast piece there!
Don't tolerate it, Laura. Crock pot him.

Thanks Kathy. I love his shape too and that is why I have a hard time deciding what to do. Even in my untrained eye, I think he looks great. I think his biggest drawback besides his attitude is he has a couple of slightly crooked toes.
I told Bryan about the scalping when he got home tonight and he said the same thing. So tomorrow if it isn't raining again, bully will get an invitaiton to dinner.

I agree. You already have a good roo from the other bloodlines. Get rid of butthead.

I won't tolerate a bad rooster....EXCEPT my old mottled cochin roo.

I have a funny story about that.

I have 5 of his sons growing up, plus 2 daughters. They are mean little boogers. FIESTY. They all bite....they will latch on and hang off your arm if they feel like it. When I was carrying them from the brooder to the cochin coop, one of them was biting my arm the whole way, little jerk

Mr Mottled was mean and evil too, but mellowed out as he got older and was then awesome. So I am growing these out to see how they turn out.

I was out of town this weekend, so my sister did animal chores saturday night and sunday morning. Sunday morning she had my little 3 year old niece with her. I told her they could go into the cochin pen to pour them some food out. My niece loves to "help" catch chickens. She is pretty good at it too. And so that pen has 10 adult mottled cochins (1 boy, the rest girls) and the 7 kids of mr mottled plus 1 unrelated youngun. all together. Almost 20 of these birds......

So I was emailing my sister today cause it didnt seem like she had fed them.....and she said that they went into that pen and they were SWARMED by the birds. My niece was SCREAMING lololol, my sister was telling her to swing her leg to keep them away. Omigod, I laughed so hard when I heard the story.

She said they DID feed them, but only enough to distract them with the food so they could escape the pen. LOL. It is horrible and yet hilarious at the same time.

I am laughing just picturing that one, Nella!

Toooooo funny! Too bad someone didn't get a picture of that!

Laura, Ya know, that little Del boy is looking pretty good, too!
What's the chances you get 2 good looking boys?!

Hiya all! I am alive. I have been so busy and am truly exhausted. Let me update you...First the Kung Fu Sumo Chicken's latest saga

So Ms Delilah decides when Cheyenne opens the door to the coop that it is not time to leave and as Cheyenne turns around to walk out of the coop and is in mid-step down Delilah decides that now is the time to leave and that she must do so will all speed. She rams into Cheyenne's thigh as she is going out the door, plasters Cheyenne face first into the dirt and then decides to stroll across the Cheyenne's back and hop off at a full run towards the goodies I am holding across the yard. I admit it...I did not help the child. I was laughing to hard and holding my ribs too tightly to help her. But Delilah literally plowed her over and looked at her like she was totally incensed that Cheyenne dared to be in her way. If she could have spoken english I am 99.9% positive that Delilah would have looked at Cheyenne and said "Out of my way peasant!"

I also had finals due in 2 classes on Friday and Saturday so I was burning the midnight oil needless to say and was exhausted mentally...I began stressing about the Diva Do's feet because she was overdue for a trim...her farrier could not make it out here for another couple of weeks and he referred me to a couple other farriers to try to get her trimmed. Well one was a complete ass...rude and said with his God Complex attitude "I do not do just one horse", you can imagine my response so I called the next one who as it turns out is the Keenland farrier...specilizing in racehorses, show horses and performance horses, therapeutic shoeing etc etc and he said he would come by and do a trim for $45 I said great...see ya tomorrow. Well DH had to be gone, I was tired and cranky, the weather was icky at best and Mr. hotshot shows up, lifts Jo's front foot and drops it and says "This horse needs shoes now or she will be lame in a week." I said "What?" he tells me she has no hoof left and blah blah blah...he is picking her foot up to show me but I cannot see past his big fat backside to see her foot and my mind is racing with recalling how her foot looked when I cleaned it a couple days prior and I am listening to him talk to be about the band and the frog and blah blah and Jo is getting testy, she did not like him much and had pinned her ears back and tried to nip his back a couple of times and once time he blamed it on her being in pain...I freaked and said Fine...shoe her. So, he is readying shoes for her and she is getting testy because it is past her dinner and she is prancing and not behaving herself....I am cranky and this guy is scaring the living hell out of me...So, he puts pad and shoes on her front and exclaims her back feet are fine....then blabbers on about the hoof conditioner I am using being crap and blah blah but he has good stuff with him I said fine...give me a jar of it....and he hands me the bill.....wait for this trim on the back feet, shoes and pads on the front and a jar of conditioner $232.00! Meanwhile, Jo is unhappy, I am ticked off, Cheyenne is crying because she thinks that putting nails in Jo's hooves has hurt Jo and he is announcing that he will be back in 6 weeks to check her shoes and etc because you must blah blah blah and I paid the man and announced that he did not need to come back because she did not need pads on for one thing and all his complaining about moisutre in her hooves how the hell did he expect me to make that happen as he had just covered her hooves with silicone, pads and shoes and leaving me only the coronet band to moisturize? He responds with ummmm uhhhh well ummmm to which I had a complete, make an ass of myself hissy fit and said very snarky, rude, sarcastic demeaning comments to him all the way to his truck and out of my driveway. Not to mention yelling that while her feet were worth $200.00 to me, his services were not and that the idiots at Keenland who have more money than brain cells may think he is the Farrier God I think he is a lying crook! I was also feeling like a complete idiot and angry that I let him get to me and use my fear for Jo against me as well as my being spread to thin to think and now my girl has shoes on and she does not like them at all.

So, I am getting paperwork ready for the house, doing camoflauge work on the house like a fiend for the appraisal one week from now and just started the new semester today....first class I open up Psychology of Human Sexuality GREAT! Lovely! Not! First topic for a paper due this Friday "What turns you on and why?" I can answer that "I am turned on immensely by peace, quiet and an empty house. The why is simple...stupid people annoy me and I am old and cranky!" end of paper. Do you think I can pull an "A" out of that?

I promise I have been checking in just not saying much...I am really overwhelmed right now.

But it will get better soon. I went to the gym tonight BIG MISTAKE but it made me feel better mentally if not physically. LOL

I shouldn't laugh Nella but

. Your poor sister and niece.

Normally I don't tolerate any bad chickens here either. He has gotten nice to me and even coos to me but he is just mean to the other chickens.
Thanks for the help.

Seems like you are posting more pictures now that you found your old camera. Thats good news for us since we enjoy your pictures a lot.

LH - i am so sorry - bad news or good news i enjoy reading your posts - and your paper would get an A+ from me! Sorry to hear you are spreadthin - STINKS

Kathy - see? that is what i was saying about my Del - Bubble last week - she is always and her first words would be - " Whatcha doin? Can i join in?"

And i agree - no mean roosters - i have some young ones i really need to find a home for or sometihng . They are young and not crowing - but there is one - i can tell he is gonna be a little jerk - i prefer the strong silent type when it comes to roosters. The ones that their presence is almost enough for everyone to behave around them. The main one i have now - somewhat young - a Bubble- Cochin cross - he is actually basically a columbian cochin - just stands there and all the chickens part ways like the red sea - impressive

Roosters! Aaaaah ROOSTERS!!
love.gif
They are as individual in their personalities as people. Some are sweethearts, some are jerks, some fall somewhere in between. The key with roosters is understanding these differences in personalities and working with them towards their strengths. Just like a child, they will respond more readily to positive reinforcement than they will to negative. If you can redirect bad behavior with positive energy, you can help that boy to achieve a better standing within the flock than if you just leave him to his own devices.

I've seen this repeatedly with my own boys. Granted, I probably have a lot more time to spend with my boys than the average flock keeper, but there are aspects of raising roosters that even the busiest among us can find a few minutes each day, to incorporate into how they are raised. And just like any dog, cat, horse or what have you, chickens too, CAN BE TRAINED! The caveat to that being: if they are young enough. Once a rooster reaches full maturity, his personality is pretty much set in stone. At least, that has been my experience.

But, rather than go into a long winded dissertation on the raising and training of roosters, I'll suffice it to say that, within every little man, there is the potential for greatness! It all depends on how you raise them.

If you want to know my approach to raising sweetie pie boys, PM me. I'm not gonna boar the rest of y'all with the gushing and enthusiasm over the boys that I have!

Cuz yeah, we all know already that I'm crazy about the [chicken] boys!
