You kill me with those smileys Mrs. Kathy congrats on the hatch so far glad to see your still getting possible F3 potential breeders. On the hereditary issues come to think of it one of the 3 NH boys I ended up getting out of the eggs Billy hatched for me 1 had a wry tail and he ended up like that picture of the roasted rooster(mummm btw) posted earlier by Hillbillyhen. I had already decided he was going to be culled BUT he brought on his own early demise by jumping on BJ my youngest Catahoula Leopard dog, that was a little more than BJ could take from a chicken. I have all three of my dogs chicken trained and they'll even back out of their own food bowl if one of the chickens dare to try to get something, but taking a rump kickin' is just a little much for these prey driven dogs to cope with.

Hoping for more yeller chickies to pop out for ya, soon

Jeff

You mean next summer then, right?

Well, we got finished. Every single bird dusted with Permethrin powder and also Ivermectin pour on applied. Double whammy! By gosh, this better be the end of this crap until winter is over.

Hatch is progressing. I have 6 yellow chicks (1 yellow chick is not a Project in the photo) and 1 buff. One yellow is totally not walking well, but has her legs straight out in front of her. I hope she pulls it together and gets on her feet. Either she makes it or she doesn't.

There are 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes and 2 Barred Rocks in there, too. I put 5 (I think it was 5) New Hampshire eggs under my unbreakable broody BCMarans girl, too. I will check her tomorrow and see if she hatched. I swear she is worse than a Silky, at persisting at brooding!

My first hatch of F2s I had one buff. They are now a month old. This is the buff chick today....
Notice in picture #4, the little Delaware boy looks quite proud of those GREEN legs, doesn't he?

There are a few Barred Rocks in here with them. I moved them outside to a rabbit hutch like coop a week or so ago. They have been outside on the ground for 3 days now. Tomorrow I will begin a round of Corid water on them. By golly, I do think I have a pen full of roosters here!

Kathy, I love all of the pictures........

I noticed something in picture #2. It might just be the camera angle, or maybe my imagination, but just for peace of mind, could you check the feet of that group? I could swear that I'm seeing a bumble developing on one of what I think might be one of the Del like chicks. Look to the left of the butt of the buff chick. Not the BR's feet, but whomever that is standing on the other side of that one. Look at that foot. Something just doesn't look right.

Lord, but I do hope it's just my imagination. You have enough on your plate with just dusting your birds!

Hey Jeff! Any chance you could post a picture of your hounds? I'm not familiar with the breed and would love to know what they look like. Do you hunt with them? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Here ya go and I don't hunt with them per say but they are hunters and they do love to hunt, you don't dare even remotely mention or even try to spell S-Q-U-I-R-R-E-L cause business picks up around here and GO is fine but not GO GET 'UM or anything grammatically with the prefix S-GIT or SIC as in you don't even have to finish sick'em or scit'um before it gets exiciting 'round these parts and if anything remotely moves or runs the chase is on and it better be fast, good at hiding or climb very well.

Here's some interesting reading on the Catahoula dog and you can also google Catahoula Leopard and find gobs more on them, the state dog of the Great State of Louisiana declared so by the former Governor of Louisiana, Edwin Edwards

who finally finished his TIME in the pen for embezzlement and illegal gambling, but he did make a ggod choice on naming the Catahoula as the state dog though, and also too it is one of the very few breeds actually developed here in the USA. FYI

Forgot to tell y'all about the 7 and a half foot snake mom found coiled up in one of her nests. It broke the broody and swallowed the fake egg. Stepdad killed it. It was a cow snake. They hated to kill it but one it would come back and two it swallowed the fake egg and wouldve probably died anyway.

Ok Kathy - all those chicks! They look great - just like lil dinosaurs - Lord knows that is the rock in them

Was at a show today with 1500 birds and the section of NH looked not NEARLY as good as yours- ironically the bantams were as nice as yours - but the jist is - you are doing a great job!

Didnt come home unscathed - got a soooo pretty lil nre rock hen who i have named Starla - the peak of femininity! LOVE her !!!!!! Paid two much as it was a pair and i didnt want the roo - so i paid the pair price just for the hen! Will try to get pics

Hope everyone is well! Sorry been busy and havent been posting much !
