I actually did think about your hen yesterday, Kathy, even mentioned her to Tom when this happened. Poor Dottie, she is such a sweet hen, but she was so clueless. We even showed her the baby again outside on the ground and she wanted nothing to do with it. It's best she is back in the flock anyway-she lost a massive amount of weight in that last week of brooding.

Well, I would take this one chick away from her - BUT, I am so reminded of the broody I killed by doing that very thing. OMG, that was the worst thing I ever witnessed, in my chicken keeping. A broody mourned herself to death. Ohhh, I will never forget that.

I did that once, too. Caroline's daughter, Glenda's first brood was a week old, a bunch of pure Orps. I sold them, after people told me she'd be over it the first day. She literally looked for them for months. It broke my heart! I vowed that she'd keep the next batch as long as she wanted them and she did and was an excellent mother. I won't ever just take all the chicks from a good mother hen again, ever!

The baby died last night. It apparently couldn't digest food Tom gave it and wasn't right inside. I expected that, though.

This morning we got Nugget off to eat and drink. Tom was checking the eggs, asked if one had poop on it. I said no, so he handed me the egg to wipe poop off. It was only a little bit, but as I was wiping, I realized that there was no written name on it. It was Nugget's own egg she apparently added to the bunch yesterday, LOL. So, she has 9 eggs instead of 8.

Weather sure is changing..... never know what to expect anymore! 88 and feels like 98, and not even a breeze. Is it summer? sheeesh! We got an inch of rain last night, that was not even forecasted. I imagine that is the reason for the "feels like."

Yay Chocolates!!!

I am gonna incubate all of the little chocolate girl's eggs. I am not sure if the male is mating the 2 black girls in the pen. Possibly one of them. I have seen him "try," but it appears he is not making a connection. Not sure, but I put their eggs in, too.

After I get a few hatched for myself, I will get some to you, Brandon.
