Okay so here is the tale of the Nightie and the coons. hahahahahaha
So...I know my perimeters is being tested nightly and am proud of my flock protection at night...they are safe and sound HOWEVER last night two young (smaller than my taco bell beast) coons decided to attempt to get into a rubbermaid tote on my front porch. Every night before I head upstairs I take the Big Goober (Casca) and the 10 lb Menace (Blue) outside for one last potty trip. So, I am barefotted and in my nightie and have Casca on a leash and the little menace bolts out the door and I step out with Casca who begins growling and snarling...I looked to my right and here are these two baby coons, standing in a plant pot trying to open the tote. I stepped back into the house and put Casca inside and stepped out to call Blue. He was being an old grump and was taking his sweet time so I stepped to the edge of the porch and bent down to grab him up when these two little bastardos came running towards me (I was standing between them and the steps off the porch). I scooped up Blue and the little striped rats were scratching at my leg and I was kicking out them and backing away...I dropped Blue inside the storm door so he was literally trapped between the door and the storm door and I grabbed a shovel hubby had left propped up outside the door and began attacking the little freaks. One got away and one lost his head. But my calf is scratched all to blue heaven. I cleaned the scratches and took a fingernail brush and antibacterial soap and scrubbed the tar out of them and put neosporin on my calf and covered it in gauze. DH was kind enough this evening to jab me with a shot of penicillin.
After the event last night I set both of my live traps and within an hour both had little coons in them. I killed those two and set them again...this morning...two more. So I disposed of those two and have already trapped and killed two more tonight. If my hearing is holding up I believe I heard one of the traps trip a bit ago. So, the little coons started the battle and I declared war. I cannot stand the buggers. I worry for our cat and the 10lb menace. I killed a mother coon a week or so ago and I am taking out youngsters left and right now....what I want is dear old dad...I know he is out there. These little suckers are too small to continue wasting good bullets on and my .22 again failed to eject the brass so tomorrow I will begin drowning the little snots until I get the rifle sorted out.
On happier notes....chickens woot.
Some updated pics of some of my Orp and Orp Cross babies.....
Hector's Son/Suede's Grandson...this boy is supposed to go live with Cattitude and my blue girl, Misty
Another Grandson of Suede's, Son of Delilah...This is Prince formerly penguin chick and he is also supposed to go live with Cattitude
So I keep with the purpose of this thread...Delaware....here is the Politician Chicken aka Junebug the ultimate Delawegger
Full Brother to the Politician Chicken...this is Zilla
Half Brother to the Politician Chicken...this is Storm. Somehow, Isaac and Snow produced this baby. Ike of course is Dellie but Snow is a blue splash Ameraucana....
Ah yes The Menagerie' is loaded with oddities. But Storm is the only Snow baby ever so of course he must stay here. Like I need another rooster right?
