Sebastopol geese question

I took delivery four pairs of Sebbies from Holdereads the first week of May (and 2 pairs of American Blues). They shipped when they said they would, they arrived in perfect condition and have flourished. They also included 2 female American Lavender at no extra cost.

Here's a few pics from when they were just a few days old and one from today.

I'd order from Holdereads again without reservation.

Because they can look so nice everyone wants a pair. Left to themselves the families are fairly small. A hatchery, even a small hatchery may produce more babies per pair but they generally can't keep up with demand. not endangered, not rare, but very very popular.

I am sorry to say this but the ALBC is Not a great source of Poultry info. (turkeys might be an exception) most of the population questionairs are sent to commercial hatcheries, not individual breeders and it is the individual breeders that actually produce most of the stock of "rare" poultry so they grossly under estimate the number of birds being raised. If you look on that linked document the newest reference is 2000. Holderread has pumped out a lot of colored Sebs since then and there are now many more people raising the colored Sebs. Once they get the new colors accepted by the APA so they can be entered in poultry shows the numbers will explode! Probably short lived since the whites are much farther along in their breeding and will continue to win Best of Breed in almost all shows. Best of Variety is what the colors will be shooting for.
