Celtic- Those brooders are awesome!! They are huge! My DH is going to build me some this summer, I am so excited. Right now I am using big wire dog kennels. I took the nest box out of the corner that they always run to when I go by so they don't feel like there is a place they should run and hide. That seems to be helping a bit and they were hungry this afternoon so they were all carrying on in the brooder.

Renie- I can't help you but those sure are cute babies!!

Thank you JosieChick It was a nice day here in NH today... so sat outside in the front yard and turned the babies loose.. lol They had a great time nibbling up all the clover they could find then came cuddled up at my feet to take a nap... just love these little guys.

Here are a couple more pictures of the new additions, they are starting to look better, celtic you might be right about the ones bill, if it stays pink what should I do with her cause I am going to be breeding next year? The grey one is still looking preaty rough hopfully she gets to looking better soon.

Are the three new geese worth keeping to add to the breeding flock next year?

I think your geese look nice and the grey has very nice quilting up the neck.
Heads could be a little bit better but over all decent Sebs with
what looks like some good size.
I have been told that some of the old foundation Sebastopols had pink beaks.
I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Is that gosling with the black beak and legs/feet a hybrid cross?

He should be a sebbie gosling. unless my old pair of africans snuck an egg into the sebbies house? could he be an african.

I think it may have some African in it. If you look at the part of the beak between the eyes, if it is convex (looks more like a hump) then there is some African. All others are concave "shaped like a "U" between the eyes. Plus, I have never had a gray come out that dark!

Poultry, they look SOOO much better after being in your care for awhile. I would hold onto them and use them. The chest curls are very nice, as Vicky said their heads are "perfect" but you can partner them with birds with better heads. The pink isn't as pink as the first first picture you shared either. Nice find there for an excellent price.

The goslings looks very African like in those pictures.

Agreed- they are beautiful, Poultry!

I cannot believe the difference in size between the goslings I have in the house and the ones outside with the adults. They're all getting the same feed. but the adults take them to graze 1/2 the day. I don't recall seeing this last year when I just hatched toulouse. The outside babies are so tiny still.

Well that sucks I was trying to get rid of the africans as I want to focus on the sebbies and dewlap toulouse, but thanks for the great info regaarding the bill shapes! that was very valuble info!

We run the Sebbies in trios, allowing us to control the genetics as much as possible. This also allows us to pair based on feathering, heads, color ect.

We are just adding the dewlaps this year and plan to run trios with the, as well. After much reading and talking it is what is most reccomended.

Both breeds can have fertility issues one because of feathering and the other because of size and lopes.

I know Metzers runs theirs in flocks, but you have less control of the quality of the off spring doing it that way.

The pink has gone away a lot from your first pictures to the new ones. I wouldn't worry about the coloring on the bills since they have gained so much orange.

I do reccomend buying a copy of the SOP though so you can refer to it for these two breeds of geese to help make breeding choices.
